considering that one suggestion was not made public - one post had 75% of his maps chosen despite him not beeing a winner
and that you told anaryl in chat that you didnt took all of his maps because you didnt want a huge map pool this clearly makes it your responsibility.

Seriously?

I didn't find a lot of the maps anaryl has posted. And I've only removed the map that were faction unbalanced, like four corner.

You know what, you won. The map pool is now theta, blasted rock, finn's and open palms.

Matchmaker will be removed entirely on the next lobby update.

As only 2 of the 12 selected players gave some map ideas on the forum, and never got questionned about map numbers or at least which map should leave the pool, we can't really say "decided".

Anyway, new season is started, let's hope it will keep players active.

Map pool, and so the number of maps, is decided by winners of leagues, and so by the most active ranked players.

And finally to give my opinion to the topic : 20 maps would be better i think.

I am horrified when i read this kind of posts ShadowKnight. So is this the future of the community? I should also leave now then before an even bigger disapointment.

I don't care about the number of maps, i just see how some new players have no respect when talking to some of the oldest players the community is still lucky to have.

All I see is someone who is butthurt that the hours he spent memorising build orders for maps just got wasted. He literally just called everyone who disagrees with him a noob, lashed out at Ze_PilOt as though this is somehow his fault, and equated playing no-rush 20 to being the same as wanting a larger map pool.

Someone who lashes out like that, who makes dumbass comparisons, and who somehow makes this everyone's fault but his own is not someone the community is 'Still lucky to have'.

Also, I've been around for just as long as he has...

Im really disappointed with the community and with you zep. You let me down. I thought you appreciated something more than this. I thought wrong. Maybe the players of old were the best. They studied the game not just thrashed about like noobs wanting to play simcity.

Fine by us, bye then. Go play Starcraft if you enjoy 6 maps and memorisation.

Thank you for the elegant rebuttal of the points we raised! You completely destroyed our arguments and the map pool shall be shrunk immediately!

If you feel like letting of some steam, make a cup of tea instead of venting on the forums.. ;)

Its sad to the people raised some valid points that agreed with you... Thanks to you they are less likely to be noticed. :(

EDIT: That was a bit harsh sorry, but seriously it would be nice to get some more clarification and clear arguments, as opposed to just insulting everyone :L

Maybe you should learn to set up a build when you see a map, instead of playing it 50 times before you finally perfect it. Maybe that adds a bit more intense strategy to the game.

Like someone already mentioned, skill should defeat build order. I only know the reclaim for about 4-5 maps, but I use the 30 seconds I have at the beginning whilst constructing a factory to look around and prioritize reclaim.

Adapt to your map and you'll find that your victories (and close-fought battles) will be all the sweeter :)

im enjoying the fact theres a whole ton of maps ive never heard of, and would probably never choose or see if it wasn't for the Ladder.

Also that.

I dont know about you guys but I like to play my opponent rather than the map. (.........) I think if a player wants to improve, its impossible without studying his games/replays and the map in general. How the hell you sposed to do that with 30 maps. Impossible!!!! Basically the players that spam the most games not the players that put their time into learning the game and the map likely win. I think that is wrong. But if your happy with crap games who am I to argue.

And I don't know about you, but I prefer to play my opponent rather than his build order.

One sentiment that I can agree with is that, as a new player, finding and understanding the reclaim can be difficult. HOWEVER, that is a skill you can learn and is not map dependant.

As I stated previously, people who played the map more will have an advantage, and it will be the same ratio, no matter how many maps are in the pool. Your first time playing the map? Its his tenth. Your third time playing? Its his 30th. The fact of the matter is that he is more experienced on ladder.

Studying your replays is not dependant on knowing the map at all. As it stands, putting the time in to learn the game itself and not the maps is a far better idea than learning the map itself. As a person who does not play ladder regularly, but still plays a lot of 1v1's (Mostly on non-ladder maps) I can confidently say this.

In actuality, your example of a good game on open palm was one of the worst ones for your cause. Its a prime example of two player who are experienced on the map having a game, and you class this as good. However, imagine trying to get up to that level as a completely new player! The only reason this is good for you is that you have played the map before and are looking to get back into it. If the map pool is new for everyone, everyone is on even footing, if its new for some, then some have a bigger advantage. Think about how you are learning the maps on ladder, WITH everyone else. If the ladder pool was small and you were trying to get into it.... You would be fucked.....

The improvisational skill is playing your opponent, adapting and overcoming not bumblefucking around on a map to see what works. Pfft
