Pillar is cheaper, can go toe to toe with aurora, t2 bot is weaker, requires more micro, hits less, overkills and the muzzle velocity is too low. I never did like the Mongoose. It looks ugly, and it doesn't really fit with anything else UEF has. Either in range or speed. It has no synergy with the overall UEF army. Used on the flanks, in small numbers, you can split targets to minimise overkill, Then run away straight after the grenade volley. Good for cutting down Aurora numbers. But you need something else to use as a frontline unit. Massed Mongoose is not a good idea.

Personally, I'd have liked the Mongoose to be a bit more menacing. With a slightly increased torso turn rate. Increased muzzle velocity, increased projectile fire rate and severely reduced accuracy. The gun should be more like a Mini-gun spraying an area with wildly inaccurate machine gun fire. It should have a more menacing sound. IMO

...What? Mongoose has been the recommended UEF counter to auroras since ever. That means that Mongoose aren't a counter after all?

That is not even close to what Sheppard said. Where do you get that idea from?

I mean yeah that means hovertanks win vs Auroras, but you need to upgrade T2 for it. Saying hovertanks counter auroras is like saying ASF counter Interceptors.

1. This does not say that T2 hover tanks aren't a counter against aurora's or that ASFs aren't a counter against interceptors. What it says is that the higher tech units beat the lower tech units (this is natural and necessary), but that they suffer in availability. No one will rush to T3 air for the sole purpose of killing interceptors.
2. Mongoose are no t2 hover tanks. The only corresponding aspect is that they're both build at T2 factories.

I'd say that mongoose are excellent aurora killers but the moment you lose against them, no matter how good your counter unit is, is the moment when you upgrade to T2 too early, then the deficit in the army is too big for the few T2 hover tanks (or mongeese) to deal with it.

Gun is an ugly counter for auroras. Aeon acu has better gun and acu can only be in one place. Fast t2 is cheaper but the mongoose sucks vs aurora now.

Also there werent any mass to mass comparisons. Just hover tanks vs auroras. Ic you test shields should probably check the cost in MEUs and add on the cost of the facttech

But if you have a problem vs aeon, just post the replay here and i will have a look. As Isen already said, it depends on the map.

I played a game vs aeon on theta and done fast gun upgrade. The aeon player had no chance as he hadn't gun.
Just an example.

the problem is on small maps or in water maps.
in small maps the best you can do is second air, use bombers, try to get gun on com, go fast t2, or try to catch is acu alone with your acu and your t1 tanks so enemy will need to moves his auroras in for saving his acu.
there is an option on maps like blasted rock or crag dunes, check where his acu is going, then send your acu in the other path straigth to his base, send tanks and artyes with your acu, i think auroras are the worst tanks for base killing. defend well and kill more and you will win.

I'm suprised that people consider the Aurora to be OP when there are so many units to counter it.
Seraphim T1 arty, T1 bombers, Jester, T2 gunships, Rhino, Blaze, Hoplite, Mongoose, Illshova, Ghetto gunships, Janus, Corsair, T1 pd, T2 pd, T3 mobile arty, T3 SAB of any flavour... They are also countered by siginificant numbers of Thaam, Striker and especially Mantis, when such units charge into a close quaters fight. They even take a beating from Selen which are set in ambush. The Aurora is actually quite vunerable.

OH MY GOD, we MUST to OP Aurora! lol lol lol Im kidding ok?

It was to show that this unit that no one had built for the last five years is now actually viable, and not only viable, effective

It got buffed.
