-Still no answer of how got selected the maps out, but for sure not by the players who were supposed to.

Why "still"?

- It was never asked.
- How it was made didn't changed from the last announcement (winners of the last season).

Why "r sure not by the players who were supposed to" ?

Re-read the last pages, the map pool is a result of the maps that were proposed by the winners (and Pip by mistake, I copy/paste all the maps without checking the nickname) + Anaryl map in PM.

I've removed the maps that were not in these list, and added most of the ones that were not (minus all the maps that could cause constant whining like four corner or high noon).

Before doing some accusations, check your facts.

So if i try to understand what just happened (tell me if i'm wrong) :

-Few players from the different top 3 leagues were even aware that they had to decide a mappool, some of them probably don't care, some other prefer only play and not read the forums. So we realize only 2 of those players post some maps. (no care of which map in, which map out, but it's still an effort to post here).

-Actually we find pip and Anaryl's maps, after a funny request to ask to give a mappool, but not in the forum to not risk any critic.
This of course after ignoring some excellent ideas like mappool teams and co.

-Someone gave me this suspicious link in the chat, but it's still not the current mappool.
http://pastebin.com/SGAJW85W

As a result :

-a quiet update in the wiki, crossing finger, and without news.

-Still no answer of how got selected the maps out, but for sure not by the players who were supposed to.

-A totaly disproportionned mappool, with some funny maps out of any pool for good reasons.

If someone had not enough time to write the news, then no problem, there's always someone to give a help in this community.

Here is a table :

Image

Hopefully there's some good things in this mappool : Open Palms is back, Point of Reach finally comes in, we keep the excellent discovery of Cobalt Valley.
But on some other ways, two peaks, like balvery mountain which is still in btw are some draw maps : at equal level, the players have very high chances to draw.
The number of maps is now 30. It was 16 on gpgnet, i think 20-25 maps was more accurate, but this is a way lower problem than size proportion.

How can we ask to the balance team to work cristalclear, and in the meantime impose some mappools like that.
In my opinion the in place system was not good. And as zep said, all the other systems had not worked especially better. I had big hopes in the vote system few seasons ago, but i saw this solution wasn't good either. But we have not to give up and continue to try new solution for the mappool rotation.

I'm not an active ranked player, i'm not even a player those times, but i like the efforts made to make the ranked more played. This new mappool will for sure not help.

Why do you think I've stopped caring about it?

Furthermore Zep, a few of the top ranked players feel that this is a set up so that you can make a token effort to have the community select the maps and when it doesn't work, you will use it as a pretense to "establish dictatorial control" - I don't necessarily think this is the case - but personally I think the reason why ladder winners haven't responded to this thread is that they feel they will cop abuse from the community for their selections. This is true, we will.

I can message you a list of maps that I would personally feel be good in the ladder - but doing it in public - it's fkn suicide. Also, if you permit to give me the authority - OI can collect and admin all the ladder winners choices in private. I have a plan that would work well.

The main reason I've stopped any kind of public vote is that people are getting borderline (or even past that point) insulting towards the one who decide how the vote is done (aka me) because a map they hate is on the list (or a map they love isn't).

Doesn't this happen with the balance team too? That's still voted...
Regardless what pip suggested is that there is a specific team for it which doesn't change which removes the public vote every season change, except for when the team is made.
Or in fact the team could be chosen by you itself.

Winners need a proper reward for their hard work in ladder games, that is true, but the rest of us should not suffer from Emerald craters.

So, every winner will select a few (1,2,3...?) maps and nobody will talk into that. Rest of the ladder, however, will be decided by larger team of people.

Everyone is happy!

Again, this is not a thread for debate map pool. Some people like maps (ie. Emerauld Crater), some doesn't, deal with it.

That's because of remark like "but the rest of us should not suffer from Emerald craters." that you (aka the community) don't have anything to say anymore.

The reason is constant whining about how the map pool is done.

This thread is yet again a proof of it (I've deleted a lot of whining).

I agree with Koecher : it looks like the players who play the ladder the most (and win the most) don't really care about the forum, and don't even seem to check the "what's new page". It's probably wiser to appoint some people the mission to upkeep the map pool in a balance, diverse and fresh way (or mix of old and new).

I don't think it should be like the balance team, but like moderators : they would do it all the time, remove the maps if there are imbalances or replace them with proper versions, etc.

Of course, the winners can still submit their ideas, but I don't think it's wise to base the map pool on only 1 or 2 player's ideal map pool. It looks like some external "hand" has to intervene.

I totally agree. We have some very experienced and fair players who I'm sure would be happy to do this.
