If you have a Kathy connection it has nothing at all to do with region, I live in New Zealand, further away, than camicase, and many people can attest to the fact that I do not lag games. If you don't want someone there because of a laggy connection, fair enough, all power to you. But the fact remains that it is wrong to discriminate based on region.

You make it sound like people don't like you because of some racial or ethnic reason... right.

People don't want to play a game that can lag in big matches under the best of circumstances, let alone with someone thousands of miles away. That's not being intolerant, it's wanting to play a game without a constant stutter the whole time. I'm sure there are some people you could game with that are more local.

I've played with many aussies, with plently stable connections and ping under 500 (usually around 350 tbh.) Your net did not fit this criteria

Also, I'd like to add - Your cpu was fine - better speed than half the players in the game

The problem is of common high latency issues for players connecting from Australia. It's nothing personal at all. Having to rehost because of lag/drops will piss anyone off.

Your other option is the do-all solution that ColonelSheppard has mentioned: Host your own games.

FAF welcoming many new players regularly, those need to be educated. With time if your connection is fine, people will remember you as 'fine' and it'll get better

I can empathise with your siduation. As I am also an Australian, and do also see high pings to EU and UK destinations. There is a general lack of awareness and tollerance as to what ping is, and exactly how it affects the game.

Most players are used to assiociating ping with the kinds of delays that DO cause lag. But they don't appreciate that and AU player, with a high ping, will not lag if their connection is stable. Because the game forces a manditory 500ms delay, there will usually be no effective impact on the game.

The actual in-game lag has more to do with simspeed, which is caused by CPU and GPU limitations. I.e. Slow computers. Or sometimes it is caused by ping spiking, which indicates latency or instability in the connection. People blame ping, because it is something measurable, but they don't seem to realise that the ping they see in game, will be different to what they are seeing in the lobby  An aussie may see a 350 ping in the lobby, which might only go upto 375 ping in-game (which will not lag). But on the other hand an EU player may have a good ping of 75ms, but then see this jump upto 600ms in game, because of a bad connection, or data streaming... You must remember that if you're AU to EU, then the base ping is 350ms, so that leaves a smaller margin for network latency - which means your connection needs to be that much more stable.

Even more common then this, is that the game will lag without any bad pings at all. Because one player has a bad computer, and is running at -5 simspeed. But people blame ping, because, they don't understand.

Now, it may be the case there are technical limitations. In which case you should be respectful and only join those games where the lag will be minimal. This may mean limiting yourself to 2v2 or 1v1 games. Generally, if a host requests that I leave the lobby because of ping I will do so... If it becomes an issue, host your own game. Then you get to be the one doing the kicking. :)

I am only a recent member of this community and found out about this community through casts, and it seemed that everyone was happy with one another. However, after a few weeks playing, as of late I have been receiving a lot of crap from some regarding my higher than average ping or just the sheer assumption that I will lag the game up because I am from Aussie. Now some may say that these people are joking and they may be right, but its different when people tell you that they don't want you joining there game ever again.

So please, the community of FAF, can we please have some tolerance. Sure there may be a tad bit of lag from time to time and it my be caused from people who live half across the world from you but this is a world wide community. If the lag is not to the point where it freezes the whole game up for long period of time/permanently then give it a chance, I am pretty sure you will have more fun and barley notice the lag if you just ignore it. No game will ever be perfect.

If you have gotten to this point, thanks for reading.
