Nom, you're making my point. The burden of proof for feature removal is on the folks wanting it removed proving that it's a problem, not on the people that use the feature as to why it should stay. You don't remove a car's steering wheel and then ask the driver why he wants it back. I already explained why displaying ping is valuable to me. Where are the few voices here that got kicked from having ping visible? Where is their information showing this is a common problem? I don't remember seeing it happen in 6 years of playing this game -- but I find use in ping every day!!

Everything is a "simple matter of programming" - in effect you are creating work for little real world value. Remove a feature and then jump through hoops to incompletely provide it's original functionality. What a waste of time. Just color the ping red / green / yellow if it's in a certain range and you'll get rid of the kicking problem if it exists.

Please bring ping back!!

So why do we need ping? Sorry, this entire post does not reflect why we need ping. A driver needs his steering wheel in order to steer the car. That much is obvious.

I'll make it red for 0, nil, or > 500.

No! There is a difference between nil and ping > 500, and i want to see it. You should display NIL and 0 ping just as before.

Vicarian, I appreciate your work in general, but you are taking extra effort to *remove* a feature and jump through hoops to communicate the information the feature did in the first place (but less, because we lose the transient spikes component).

Why? Is there no other feature more deserving of your time?

There is no evidence that ANZ people being kicked is common/pervasive enough to merit this. Never mind that removal of ping will still not solve the problem (let's remove flags too!)

The improvements you're trying to make are good and we should keep them, just please bring ping back!!

Now we can't see if some players aren't connected until we try to launch. Not the end of the world, but surely a step backwards.

Is it obvious? What is the % of games and players actually affected by ping nazis? How many of those idiots will still kick when they see the ANZ flag anyway?

Yes, ping reflects latency and not connectivity -- but it's still useful to know latency. I've seen (sometimes big) swings in latency in the lobby too, and that's an indicator of connection stability.

You are arguing for removing functionality that people (including me) like and find useful. Removing features has a high bar of acceptance, and a few loud posts in the forum does not qualify!

Unfortunately, it looks like someone made the change and dropped ping information from the lobby :(. The right way to fix this problem was to provide additional information about connection quality, maybe the color of the ping. That gives some ammo to tell the alleged army of ping nazis the connection is fine if it's green and the number below 500.

Please bring ping back.
