V: Not all noobs are people who can't work with criticism.

But to take your example... can't you imagine good reasons for wanting a power surplus?

I can, but telemazer isn't one of them. A couple of E storage, and continuously pausing/unpausing the ACU when it is upgrading works as well. Alternatively: click the upgrade button, pause, send an engineer to assist (T1) and you spend 2500 energy rather than 25K (or whatever it is) per second.

I can understand it if you want an additional T3 Pgen, to be sure your opponent takes longer killing your energy in a snipe of some sorts, or to provide for the constant stream of T1 engies that have to assist your air factory. But not 10. Build additional Pgens when they are needed to power your bigger engineering army, but not before.

I agree with your first point that being micromanaged is counterproductive because it is just someone else doing your thinking for you, but this last point here sounds like a good way to get fragged.

But to take your example... can't you imagine good reasons for wanting a power surplus? - Especially when you are behind you might want to get the teleporter upgrade for a snipe (performing the upgrade takes power), and teleporting around also takes power.
Maybe your guy was working on this?

And that is the problem with blindly listening to advice. This guy was probably trying to achieve something, quite possibly a teleporter.
In this game, he discovered that even if you get enough power to perform the upgrade you still lose (evidently) - or maybe he discovered that it's better to let the upgrade take 2 minutes than to build enough power to do it in 30 seconds.

If he had tried to explain what he was doing you would have (correctly) said "That's never going to work, just do as I say." (which is a dismissal, and it always hurts for an idea to be dismissed) - and if he had then listened he would not know if his idea would have worked.

My point again... - what would he have gained by listening to you at that time?

The only chance you had to 'help' him was to give him a clear plan of action long before this happened.

There is no need for a pro to tell a noob that something doesn't work because it's usually plainly obvious.
Do you think you are telling the noob anything he hasn't already (just) discovered when you say
"Omg, don't send mantis against titans. Build T3 units, they work much better against titans"

The best thing to do, when you are a noob, is to continue as you are doing only interpretting things your teammates say as subtle suggestions. If you want to be left alone, defensive swearing is usually an excellent tactic in life.

You would be VERY surprised how "sturbborn" some can be!

I could as well again refer to my example regarding the t3 pgen serial builder. Even after he was VERY politely told that it was not required, he kept on doing so and started calling me names cause I was dead :D

No, you don't learn from it. You learn almost nothing from blindly doing what someone else is saying, and you know what makes it even worse? - Usually there are multiple people all saying different things.

Alternatively ignore them. Works for me. It probably should work for everyone else too. E-penises are for the insecure and low-esteem.

See what I said, they're even proud of ruining the game for their team.

[quote]na just tml his comander and reclaim his base.[/quote
I do teamkill if the guy is way out of line for no reason, or if he talks shit to another teamate when himself is not good at all (this happens VERY often) but tml ing the guy because he's noob. No way dude! That's wrong!
Just let him die and take his base over :D

I guess I really live in different "worlds" cause from my little experience :

- noobs are the people who complain the most , "you guys don't support, etc." when they simply miss the big picture of the game. And when you try to explain to them they just ignore it or won't even question their gameplay. And in the end they become the ones being offensive!

- "pros" are offensive too off, but mostly against other experienced players. I seriously don't experience a lot of times, "pros" insulting noobs. They will say they play like crap, but being bluntly offensive, not really. "pros" give more shit to each other, period!

2) hope they learn for the next game
Even if it doesn't work, that's still the best course of action. Besides, even if you mean well, the advice may not be correct. Even on the hives/drones thing: they may simply not realize there's a way to get 300 engies to assist 1 factory.

What you should not do is swear at them, I don't see how there's any chance of that working to anyone's benefit. Of course there are some exceptions, i.e. the guy that used to swear at you for not doing your job that is now 200 pts below you and still trying to tell you he's the better player...

What you should definitely not do is TML, Mercy or Nuke their ACU, not even if it's really really funny and possibly beneficial to your team.

Also, what V Described is noobish, whether it is stupid or not. In the end it doesn't matter. It has to be sorted out. At some point. I don't care about the whe or the where, but the way of doing it is important.

This is a case of people refusing to listen to advise versus elitists who think they can say whatever they want to make people better, only because they are better at doing it. Both have to tone it down.

Latest game I had with a "funky guy" , fresh as well, but really stupid.
He was building like 10 t3 pgens for little assist on his t3 air factory. How can someone not notice that he's like +15k extra production , and still continue to build more and more.
That is not noobish, that is stupid, period!

Seriously wether players are being polite or not, 99.999% don't listen at all. Very annoying.

Flynn, seriously, it's not about being raged for not knowing what you are supposed to be doing (although, when you look at setons, the bare minimum should be kind of obvious).

This thread is about the person who when they are criticized they'll just say, 'you whine a lot, I'm building mavor, nub'.

I think it is.
I think for a large part it is about someone being raged at for not knowing what to do, you just don't know that it is.

Go play League of Legends, or if you have a thick skin, Heroes of Newarth or DOTA 2. Go play it, try to do exactly as your (shouting) teammates say and notice you are performing just as bad or quite possibly even worse.

That should help you understand that in most cases it's not the unwillingness of the player in question to improve, but the fact that your instructions are not useable even if they are slightly constructive. Unless you take your time to explain something to someone, and write at least a few paragraphs worth of text, you should not expect any improvements.
In fact, try a World of Warcraft raid when you are new, someone is patiently explaining the bossfight to you VIA VOICECHAT for 15 minutes, and you will still probably f*** it up.
