After 4000 odd games, individual wins and losses become ephemeral. I was wondering how long it would take you to bring that up. I suppose you should be proud of beating me at 3am after a couple of bottles of wine and not playing for some time.

Maybe the upperbound don't want to be matched against "low ranked" (from their point of view) either.

Yes I can understand that. Oh well, it was just an idea.

Completely off topic here but I love the way you lay the smackdown on IridiumBlows at the start of the first game. Shame you gave up in the end though! If only you focused on that T2 naval factory at the start! I like the way you confidently say that you love the map to psych him out.

The second game was okay but not as memorable as the first :P

While I hate being cynical, I say that if you made the rating system such that we would actually lose a certain number of points after a certain time of inactivity(and being quite aggressive on this), you would see a storm of pros, semipros, meds, seminoobs and noobs rushing to save their cherished rating.

Of course, this would break the fairness of rating system and I dont recommend it, but it would probably get a far bigger number of players actively involved, thus doing good to the community! 8-)
Anyway, you would not lose anything, trying it for some weeks

Thinking about it again, how about avatars displaying publicly how many days being dead meat?
Dont get me wrong, I dont judge anyone, but it's when we are denying our true nature, that we get the worst result.

your statement is like Romney's statement about the 47% people that voted for Obama... you give a f*** on people below 1800 points I think ...

I'd say that it is, in fact, nothing like Mr. Romney's statement.

I'm not sure why you are opposed to this since you only have 197 1v1 games.

Again, it must be mutual, or you are just activating the "noob bashing allowed" option.

Yes I suppose it must. I had initially thought it just to be a threshold, so after a while there would be no upper bound on the matchmaker after you crossed said threshold. I didn't realise people would object so vehemently to the idea of this. Personally I'm kinda sick of not getting matched against the upperbound.

The problem is the lack of players. Nothing else.

2. If matched against a much better opponent you allways get one of your favourite maps.

I'd rather lose 70% of my games to pros than spend 700 games beating 1400 rated players.

well anaryl... I like to play with 70% of the FAF community as an average player and have every time different games/opponents then playing everytime with the same 50 people over 2000 points ... ;)

your statement is like Romney's statement about the 47% people that voted for Obama... you give a f*** on people below 1800 points I think ... ;)
but anyway I like to watch your games and learn...

And again, it won't work because it won't make higher ranked player search more.

So ideally, if a higher player is searching and can't find a match it will automatically give you a go-ahead. But if they're not, but someone lower is, it will match you with them. That way it balances out. Otherwise, it just matches up normally with someone from your 'band'.

You realize that from the other player point of view, it must do the exact opposite ? That can't work.

For most of the players, it's only for fun. There is nothing to win, you won't make a career in FA pro scene because it doesn't exists, so I don't see what else it can be.

Also to work, a "unlock ladder protection" must be mutual, or you impose your choices to others.
And it won't make you play against better players only, that's a stupid assumption. (because the better player will not play against a better one :)

So in these cases, adding such option virtually adds nothing to hosting the game yourself.

The problem is NOT the system, but the lack of players using it.

Players play in 1v1 to compete. That's how it's always been. That is our fun. If you just want to have fun, you host a custom. That's how it has always been in the 1v1 scene.

So, in my mind it would work like:

If protection = true
Then skip matchmaker

So ideally, if a higher player is searching and can't find a match it will automatically give you a go-ahead. But if they're not, but someone lower is, it will match you with them. That way it balances out. Otherwise, it just matches up normally with someone from your 'band'.

maybe anaryl wants something like a featured mod called "1on1 ladder"?

you can host a game call it "1vs1 all welcome".
but from my viewpoint you could also call the game title "1vs1 noob bashing here" or "no fun with anaryl"...

baby come on ... don't we play all just for fun??!?
