I think I'm going 3700x with 16 gig of good ram. It'll be great for anything. Until I need a new gc. Then that'll be a simple fix.

Thanks.

It's a simulation of ASF fight over setons which is the worst case scenario when it comes to faf./viewtopic.php?f=2&t=17775#p176420 That's what I got from running on my r5 2600. Was never the slowest one when I was still playing, even when recording while using OBS with CPU x264.

But honestly just get anything from the last 2 years with good 3000mhz ram and your good to go to play faf. Be it AMD with it's R2/R3 or Intel's 8/9k offering.

A good repeatable benchmark run on a chokka setons is indicated.

There were no good tests posted about how ram speed affects sim speed.
just some trusted people guessing that after a certain point, with very fast single core performance CPUs you will need to also worry about RAM speed. witch is actually correct for many tasks including gaming, not just supcom. For AMD you are often more limited by memory-system performance, so for AMD (FX, R1,R2) , overlocking ram just increases overal performance and not some magic about supcom.

For supcom just need to choose any modern CPU with good single core performande per price value, Intel's overclokable i3s look tempting for supcom. but ofc ryzen has gigantic multicore performance advantage over those for the same price.

used ryzen 1400, 1600 are already very cheap, if you already have some old intel PC or intel PC with pentium/celeron/old i3, you may just upgraide it with some high single core performance i5****k, i7, i7****k or xeon if that option is available.

if aliexpress works good in your area AND you for some reason want more than 16 gb ram for your supcom PC you can get xeon e5-1620 (only v1, v2 is not overclokable) or xeon e5-1650 v1 or v2, chinese mobo, 16 or 32 gb very cheap ddr3 server ram in dual or quad channel and overclock it to 4.0-4.2 ghz, and you will get around 190 CPU. 1700+ setons is playeable with this CPU, but already close to being fairly slow, but very often not slowest. (by default you can OC only up to 3.9,to overclock CPU to 4.2 you need to buy expencive mobo or buy regular one and swap for bios that allows overclocknig, there are many russian guides about that , there are also cheap dual channel models appearing that also do overclocking up to 4.2 )

viewtopic.php?p=165158#p165158 some other topic

Edit: also ryzen 2200G, 3***g look to be interesting for supcom since you don't need powerfull GPU for supcom... (depending on your taste kinda...)

I had one of the fastest CPUs when I used to play FA a decade or so ago - and it would still crawl late into a big game. When everyone has a better CPU, are 4v4 on 20km+ maps still crawling? Or are they mostly at normal sim speed throughout? I noticed the mods now enable more than 1000 units - I assume things are better than they used to be!

Love the big maps, but those games took hours due to the slowdown...

Also: an old graphics card should still be fine, right? I mean, it's the CPU/memory which is the bottleneck in this game, correct?
