I'm an Australian (Tasmanian, even) and never had serious issues with connection, not on this fairly weak fibre, not on the old copper cables, and not even when the copper cables were throttled as they were being replaced. as people have stated, as long as you have a stable connection under that 500ms threshold, your connection will not be noticeable.
We all know that, a lot of hosts (especially at lower ratings) don't, so you have to try and A: educate them, which wont happen or B: find a new host or better yet C: host yourself, which is easy! as long as you understand it's your lobby and the crying of the other 1-15 players don't influence your choices.

About the politicians discussion, we don't actually elect anyone, we "donkey vote" too much in the election so that it hangs parliament, and then slowly seats crawl in until someone "wins".
A lot of pollies promise decent internet but im not sure they really understand what they're getting into, so i don't trust them, they never have plans to roll it out, they're just saying it to hook in the younger voters who don't have an opinion yet.
Next election should be a good one though, a lot of parties are waging some form of meme warfare on socials medias at the moment.

The thing is man that before the greedy kents ruined our national infrastructure some glorious bastards actually did get a full fiber internet connection. So while some poor saps are on some quality 4/0.5 connections with a local ping of 100ms People like myself have 100/40 connections with 4ms pings to local servers.

One of my faf mates has been travelling the world this last year, I played with him in Canada, South America, London, Ireland and will continue to do so as he travels Europe. The latency just isn't an issue he hosts games so I don't get booted for being Australian and it plays fine. People just boot you because flag regardless of reality.

While I don't think we should get rid of the flag I think we need to fund a considerable education initiative teaching people the difference between Australia and glorious New Zealand.

While I don't care about jokes calling us Australia, certain retards players genuinely do not know the difference and kick glorious New Zealanders from lobbies based on this misinformation.

Some of the key differences to remember

Australia
-Shit internet
-Their national animal is a rodent which they slaughter en masse with their utes
-Giant spiders
-Everything tries to kill you
-Indigenous people are drugged out of their minds
-Really fucking hot
-Can't play rugby to save their life.

New Zealand
-Great internet
-National animal is a cute as f*** bird
-Basically no spiders
-Everything here evolved to chill out
-Indigenous people are drugged out of their minds
-Really mild weather
-Rugby gods to which no other nation can come close

Ping to Australia from Europe always is 400 ms or so, just because of distance. That is not a problem, it has to be < 500 ms which is the synch frequency. Quite some players don't understand that.

But on average there are more connection issues with Australian players, probably related to bad internet. Not all Aussies have bad internet though.

A big part of the games played is 8 to 12 player maps. People wait long for a game to fill. With so many players, very often after a minute of playing, the game has to be rehosted because of some connection issue. Then the filling of the lobby takes time again. People get tired of waiting in stead of playing.

I would say that the instability of game connections in general is the biggest reason why hosts do not want to increase the risk of another failed game by including an Aussie player. Unfair to you, absolutely.
