Hi Medicraze,

I really like the style of the video, agree that bite size chunks to the new player is best - if they have the drive and interest they can research the more in depth content out there.

And I could not agree more with the thought process of enjoying the game rather than obsessing on the rating. I stopped playing this for a couple of months earlier this year as my "number" was not rising fast enough. Now I play to enjoy, yeah I get pi55ed off if i do something stupid or play bad but it's about having fun....

Keep them coming!

You're welcome man. Always happy to help. I have a video that should be out soon. I think many people will like it. If not, it's going to be an aggressive shot to the nads. lol

even better than the last! such a good vid. I couldn't agree more with all the points!

thanks for the feedback tatsu

I do try to be very scientific in my methods and what I implement. Some things aren't what they seem, but can be more effective than a direct approach.

basic example:

Bio workplace, or pediatric center, or something:

"Clean your hands to keep germs away" - good, because action states result.
"Keep your children safe by cleaning your hands" - better, because perceived value (children) motivates (safety) action (cleaning hands).

1. Don't use mods for these kind of videos. It only confuses new players.
2. Don't teach beginning players to reclaim, it's bad. If you never use a single reclaim command you can still get to 1500 rating. That means they have more important stuff to focus on, not the reclaim.

Let me addess these.
1: I agree with you. lol
Just short on time and I didn't want to spend hours getting footage.

2: I very much disagree, and just because I disagree doesn't mean I'm right. I'm very open to discussion. BUT, let me say that our goal is the same, just a different delivery.
Context:
I implemented a lot of what I learned from my degree in public health. That being altering perceptions to change human behavior. I wont get too deep, but here's the basic idea.

Consider a new player's state of mind and psychology (you could refer to Heaven's machine complex here).
meaning:
A new player who is struggling typically avoids venturing out by placing value in rate of income. I've helped many many new players, and I would always observe the first few mins of a match vs ai, and this is what i've noticed.
-Typically, ~20 engies upgrading a single mex to t2 with 12mass income and -50mass stall.
-They know that expanding and grabbing mexes is important, yet they typically wont.

So why are they not?

My solution:
Motivate them by addressing their urge to stay put and eco.
Stating - "send your engineers out to grab reclaim. You will get more mass to upgrade your stuff, and get more units faster" is a stronger motivator than "expand, because it's better than your strategy" because it addresses their subjective value. Both these statements are true, but one holds more value, thus more motivational strength to alter behavior.

(I know I'm dragging this out...but I like answering thoroughly. Just use to writing case reports and shit...........ya)

Because they want the upgrades faster, they will now venture away from their base in attempts to upgrade faster. Over time, perception of value changes. Expansion now trends towards a greater value than fast eco.

We both get to the finish line (they need to focus on other things than ecoing), but one holds more weight (more psychological weight), because one addresses the primary motive, and the other addresses the facts.
Facts that most new players know about to begin with.

I just want to see what you have done.

While watching it i thought; "Yes! this is a good start for every new player!"
So i made a bookmark to show this my friends and to use/link it here in the forum for new players.

The only thing i don't liked was no pause between different tips.
After a Tip i want to watch it again without any commentary.

Like after explaining how to set a mass storage template, you could simply show it again without voice. (3-5 seconds)
Or for intel, a smal sequence where you can see a scout flying over the enemy and reveal the units/buildings.
I am better in remembering pictures then voice/text.

I can't criticise more, because i like the video as it is.

Thanks for the feedback Uveso.

The reason I was delivering information quickly is because the format is review-able. Rewinding is pretty low effort. In my research, a long video with a low density of information is a mild deterrent. My strategy is to make it as professional and usefully informative as possible given the target audience (that being very very new players).

I felt this was the way to go. But, you do prove a good point. I wanted small digestible tips to get players going, but I also should let them digest those bites during their view. Something to consider.

tip about creating a template is bit outdated, since we have an option to cap mexes by right clicking them. And even if some don't like this option and still use template, then you should create a 5 storage template or 4 storages with a mex in the middle template and make it centered in the middle/center of template, so you can click on mex with your mouse to cap it, not near mex, that minimises missclick and saves you fraction of a second and some offort each time you cap your mexes.
For long time i had problems with ecoing mostly cause i never liked capping mexes, that changed after i started useing hotbuild template otkey and 5-storage template, and now with right-click storages it is even easyer.

Yes I agree with you, even before i made the video (if you watch my stream, you'll see I don't use templates outside of t1 pd)

1: right clicking a t2 mex when damage = engies repairing the mex before capping.
2: I agree with having mex included in the template. I included the template "how to" to show that templates were an option, more so than to show what to do. Most new players have no idea about templates. But, yes you are correct.
3: As far as shaving seconds, you are correct 100%. But, I was trying to focus on a more bite sized delivery. New players are already very overwhelmed with what they need to learn, I felt it needed it's own video. I avoided details such as
"select the t2 mass extractor, then your storage, to have the template centered. Select t2 because a t1 mex is not worth....blahblahbla" :)
I had to cut a lot of things out to keep the video short. Nothing turns away heads than seeing a top tips video that lasts 20 seconds.
So the plan is to make multiple videos that are categorized, and professionally/effort-fully created. The professionalism + information (that I will have to ensure is correct) builds on the trust of information. Which is a good psychological step.

Idk if you noticed, but I'm focusing a lot of tactics that influence human behaviors.

In all, thanks for the feedback. I always enjoy getting feedback. So keep it coming :)

Great video, this should appear in the what's new section I think.

Also is it just me or are your games a hell of a lot more exciting than mine?

Well, it's dependent on your mind set. I actively try to make it exciting.
Like i said in the video. Enjoy the ride, not the outcome. I don't care about the win/loss, as long as what was done was worth doing. Do it for the lols :)

But....yes. My games are always more exciting. :)
