Some douche called me out for building navy "in the water" on Seton's yesterday. I was like, WTF?!?

I'm no Seton's pro. I am a Seton's noob really. Could someone kindly explain the meta for Setons naval positions? Here I was thinking that only Cybran boats sprout legs...

Your early BO should include both a land and a air factory. Out of the air factory make occasional scouts and scout the opponents navy production. Unless you need more interceptors or bombers then leave that air factory unassisted making scouts with the way point set over their navy production.

When you do this you always know what your opponent is doing and what you should be doing. Likewise he needs to do it to you too otherwise he is sat blind. What you are looking to do is mirror as close as possible his navy production. If he isn't making navy yet then eco up. If he is rushing navy then place more focus on countering that rush. The key is frequent scouting and also note if he is frequently scouting you.

Knowing what navy units he is making is also important. Has he made 10 frigates? Then make 5 subs. That is not only more cost effective, will not only sink all those frigates without losing a unit, but it allows you to eco more when your opponent isn't. So learn the strengths and weaknesses of each factions navy units. Find the most resource efficient away of dealing with the opponents navy so you can spend less on ships and put it into upgrading your eco faster than him.

Install the eco manager mod. Then when you scout your opponents mexes it tells you which tech tier they are. Do you have loads of t3 mexes when all of his are t2? Then go full out navy and rush him because he wont have the mass to produce enough ships to counter you. Again, the key is scouting.

Did you get rushed or did your opponent eco faster than you? Are you now struggling with a navy attack against you? Then learn your units. Sera t1 hover art and Sera/UEF/Aeon t2 hover tanks are great for driving off an attacking navy (in sufficient quantities of course). Push him back using them, drop some engineers onto reclaim fields and suck that reclaim. Spam your navy off it.

I always just assumed that if I didn't start pounding out boats, that I would be behind from the very start. Back guy does air, sides do naval/land and front guy reclaim and spam land.

It's a decent general-ish rule, and I'm no Setons pro, but the golden rule applies on that map same as any other: Respond to the game flow. If the enemy does something unexpected, they did it to gain momentum. In that case you MUST adapt to respond, and try to take the momentum back.

He's 900 on beach that was placed against 1400 on rock :P and what transpired was that he made a drop for the rock while the rock player made 3 engie drop on mid player and captured his main factory and then started spamming factories and t1 spam from the mid thus fucking up the whole game plan of the other team. Also thinking that teams of 600-600-1100-1400 VS 900-100-900-900 is balanced and starting the game just because balance says it's 92% is stupid.
