Every system has problems. If we were to bring in a voting system on ladder then the 45% minority will become very vocal about the maps they hate but the 55% majority voted in.

With just one person the decision can be just as awful or even worse but so far I have not seen a very vocal group (I've been very vocal about some maps some weeks ago but that was mostly just me).

The veto system on the current map pool does sound nice though but don't overdo it. Let players select just one map in the pool they don't want. Not more. Also: it ha's to be a genuine veto. In GPG we had the thumbs down system. I put Williamson's bridge on thumbs down once and I got it three times in a row.

I now hate nilfheim and that's where I'd put the veto in.

the obvious problem with the last system was that ladder would take hours to find you a match because noone wanted to play on the same map

- Certain "classic maps" could stay in the constant ladder rotation, perhaps making up a third of the total pool
- Of the remaining "rotated maps" perhaps a selection of the proposed maps (put together by the council) to bring into the rotation are voted on, by the ladder playing community..... Perhaps all the players who have played at least 10 ladder games since last rotation, has a vote.... the most popular get brought in
- I still to this day find it odd that you have to select your faction before knowing the map.... I'm sure there's a good reason I haven't thought of to make it this way around
- Veto system, we all have maps which we know we don'd like.... There is an argument to say that you should learn to improve how you play that map but also if you are a newer player you may want to veto larger maps..... As a suggestion when the match is found, allow 1 veto if both players agree and then they must take the next random map (not to be previously played by both players)

I know nothing as to if the above is possible at all, it just seems minor tweaks could improve the experience a lot :D

But was there even anything for ladder? Except dumping a person in to manage rotation

Speaking of veto in current system, i rather not. 200% sure i wont see maps that i like in current rotation anymore.

200% because you don't like any maps anymore?

Yes the system was definately no veto system zep made. It was more like a huge poll which maps people like most. Of course lots of people selected only small maps they liked. Both players had to vote at least 15 maps and then it was random 33% random maps 33% 1 player mappool 33% 2 player mappool. If people didnt vote 15 maps it was filled with random maps. Alike this it worked not sure if exactly like this because i cant find the news about it anymore. I liked this system times more because i was playing much more often small maps but on the other hand i played lots of different maps. I dont like the limitation atm, i voted in zeps system 80 out of 90 maps to play.

Yes, veto means you can completely exclude maps. This was never the case.

If you'd like this sort of system back, you should be campaigning to the player councilor -- Mr. Tokyto :)

i recently came back to play faf after a 2-year break and saw that you cant veto ladder maps anymore. I remember i enjoyed ladder games so much, but its not fun for me to play it anymore. Just because i cant veto my most hated maps like 2 years ago. Why not bring it back? I dont see disadvantages that are soo big that the feature had to be removed.

My suggestion would be to bring it back and let the players veto 2 or 3 maps from the pool maximum. This wouldnt lead to situations where you cant find a game because every player did a veto on like 10 different maps.

And please dont come up with that argument that "Skill is about learning and mastering different maps" - This may be true, but its not fun to play maps i hate. And a game should be about fun, right?

My suggestion would be to just make a poll, announce it like 2 weeks in #aeolus and let the people decide what they want.

Iam open for discussion.

Please apologize my bad english. :)
