explain to them (the best is at a lanparty) going from friend to friend, how to build and how adjacency works.
-let them build all the units that exist

- hopfully they like a faction the most and love then some experimentals. then you have them addicted

- do not let them get frustrated: "Why is my PD shooting in the ground??!?!GRML" while the other is using mobile TMLs or arty.

- after this introductoin, let them play something different and at home they can play for themselfes.

- give them a homework: develop a tactic that would break the defensive lines of the opponent, how to do an airdrop or a sneak attack. show them the differences between the faction.
show them the thousand ways to die. :-)

and please, when you are done with it, tell us how it went.

and don't be sad when only 30% of them like the game (at least this is the ratio who still likes the game after he has lost the first time :-) ). losing in FA is a pain as we all know.....

however there are lots of small things we can do that will add up to make things less difficult.

things like:
-better unit descriptions - we can have them say what the unit should be used for
-more intuitive systems - for example the current overcharge requires you to know that you need a storage built to use it - this is burden of knowledge
-less punishment - if you dont build tmd you are going to have a bad time. while fixing this particular example is very difficult we should avoid things where if you dont know something you just lose
-better tutorials - a set of MP ones would be nice, also a tutorial for the faf lobby would be good on first login; too many people ask questions about that.
-an environment where new players can play vs equally new players - currently such a thing doesnt really exist, at least not in a properly functioning way.

supcoms skill ceiling is currently beyond uncapped - we can lower it a lot and still no one will be affected by it.
however its skill floor is also extremely high - just the sheer amount of stuff you need to know to win your first game vs ai is a lot. We cant reduce this to nothing but we can avoid raising it even more.

well or sth like that anyway, but who cares right? xD

And maybe the speed and "stress" has also something to do with it.
