Am i late? I told myself i would spend my weekend making sure i had the scope of my time spent as Player Councilor laid out properly. But everyone had a day or so turnaround, oh well.
I'm not one to push out many fake promises, i'm not a “dev” as in i cannot code out stuff to fix issues, and i'm not planning to get into the position because i don’t like the balance and want to mess with the team’s hard work,
So what do i do? I’m a mid weight Graphic Design student, and my primary contribution to the FAF community is mapping.
However, i am also capable of doing any of the work listed below:
UI/UX
3D modelling (units)
Mission Scripting
Mods
Tournaments
Training low players
Youtube work
Avatars
Promotional material
FAF collateral
The list goes on, etc.
As much as these things will not stop happening with a potential election, a potential voter will want to have a choice on what they care about most on the client and choose a candidate that will represent their wants and needs appropriately. So as much as i would like to go through the campaigns of Evil, Gieb and Toky and then be like “hue i'm going to do all of that plus some more stuff” there wouldn't be much of a point voting.
Kind of like the Australian elections right now to be honest.
Thus: here are the initial goals for my time spent as Player Councillor upon election.
~Weekly Reporting.
-FAF progresses forward in achieving goals every day,
-A common player doesn’t know that, because noone is around to tell him.
-Disillusioned with the client, they leave for greener pastures.
Here, we give people like writers another opening to contribute, we add a sense of closure and “hope” to people with issues and a feeling that the place is dead.
~Tournaments.
-First, areas outside the european scene.
-For a player in the oceanic region, your tournament experience probably went as follows:
You joined up as a 1100 with a sense of confidence and with the hope of receiving a reward for for commitment
-Then, you got stomped on by someone in the top 50, and when you asked about why this was to happen, you were told it was for fun, and to stop complaining. You never joined another tournament again.
I jumped at the chance to save what was left of the Australian competitive scene when i saw it’s incoming death but after the huge scandals and other complications, i was already too late.
Time to be a necromancer, i suppose.
-First, QAI.
QAI cannot display tournaments properly, and even if it could, only reports from FAFtd, a bot that has a few extra complications making it better off to just host one on your private account.
-My proposal is to outline tournaments in a (nice looking) document, and have this document available to all players,
-From here: players can request tournaments, etc.
-Reintroduce the Weekly u1100, and u1500 tournaments.
I am partly the reason they no longer run, as such i feel obligated to bring them back, however, the original time of what is 3 in the morning is too much for my already sleep deprived self.
-So, we create official u1100 and u1500 tournaments for “Oceanic” and “European” regions. And have them able to be run (depending on current players) at the specified times.
-The Ladder. (You knew this was coming.)
-Leagues and divisions.
-Rewarded players for playing, gave them something to work for other than just playing for rating, which doesn't work half of the time anyways.
-Is dead, broken and forgotten, a relic of a past age.
-If we raise enough support, perhaps we can see this feature return again.
-Map curation. (You also knew this one was coming.)
-Having broken maps in ladder should never happen again.
-Having unbalanced maps, maps with broken mex spots, hydrocarbon spots, need to be repaired into a declared “fixed and balanced” state for addition to the pool
-This means forming an official map curation team, under joint guidance of the M&M and the player councilor
-Not around to roast people, but to ensure ladder is a place where people can happily play games without fear of getting something that will spit in their face (Haven reef came to mind)
-New players.
-Trainers.
-Demand is massive, supply? Not so much.
-New players have no clue where to go for assistance, and when they finally see the 1/20 people that are wearing a trainer icon, the said trainer has not time, or other.
-Adding an IRC channel is an okay solution, it doesn't solve the problem properly.
-New players need more of a push to get the billy cart going.
-I considered myself computer literate before joining faf, i didn’t know what an IRC was, what was a bot or a mod, or simple chat commands.
-I’m aware we have a wiki about basic chat commands, needing to use a chat command to access it is not a good way to handle the issue however.
-I’m proposing repurposing our most useless tab: Tutorials (broken ones do not count) to link a carefully laid out wiki, or inclient page, showing tutorials for maps or telling you who can train you,
-Rename it to “help” instead of “tutorials” for language barrier purposes.
-Players can also go here to learn rules, how to report, or find out how to help
-This would also encourage players to create forum accounts (user conversions!) and get active in the community.
The average player skill is regarded as being about 800, for a goal, i would like to see this average raised up to about 1k.
-Not so new players.
-Everyone has a valued opinion
-Sometimes, they’re not heard.
-This means i’m gathering data about opinions, surveys and etc are nice, but not enough.
-Player interviews, game spotlights, etc, its CONTENT we can add to keep people invested.
-Game Betting
-I already had plans for a simple, clan only bet system that required a bot, and moderators of a form to fill out who won/lost the most “credits”
-Refined, i believe we can see the return of the much-loved system in a short time, even if it is clunky at the start.
-Communication
-”I spam chat more than a senton main spams eco” -Blackheart.
-I know all (most) of the nominees are active, that’s why they’re here. But this is a commitment statement, it’s not going to stop.
-Incorporate and promote the Slack reader tool
-(a backup, incase our blog or reporting function does not work)
-Acting as a mod liaison.
-Providing closure to finished reports
-Q&A, why is this not done? Raising concerns, etc.
Anything else? You can be damned sure ill try my hardest to act on your concerns. Again; i'm not here to pursue a personal agenda or enjoy my power trip, im here because the players called on me to represent them,
My scope for PC can and will adapt and change to the ever flowing nature of the faf community and you can expect even greater projects as time progresses.
Thank you for reading, expect a gift here: soon.Statistics: Posted by biass — 04 Nov 2016, 07:03
