I agree with the above some graphical boosts could stimulate the community as a whole. seeing my graphical backround maybe this is what I should be thinking of doing instead.

Also remastering models / animations / textures of the more important units in the game like ACUs and Experimentals could be a good start.

If the "FAF Community" was able to fix these relative simple things a continued discussion on other parts like a total engine rewrite could be meaningful. If not, well...

I don't know a lick of programming,
But I would be very interested in learning if a FAF remake would be in the cards.

the IP currently belongs to Square Enix.

I didn't know that Nordic owned the source code but seeing from these threads http://forum.nordicgames.at/threads/178 ... -Commander http://forum.nordicgames.at/threads/240 ... ource-code

it seems they currently do. they must've bought it during the GPG / THQ bankruptcy auction during which Wargaming bought Total annihilation ip.

maybe for the source code asking nicely is all that's required. by now Nordic must've gotten everything they wanted out of it wand with it's old age it must be worthless to them?

Have we actually considered outright purchasing the IP rights for SupCom and FA?

I like the petition idea.

Maybe try to convince the Spring team :p

it would obviously require cash.

that's why I suggested a kickstarter.

Total Annihilation was re-written into the Spring RTS engine (TA: Spring), and I don't recall there ever being copyright issues

We know exactly how we want the game to look, feel, and function. So, all the UI, texture, and models will already be created. We would only have to port them to the new engine.

  • The lua code of the game, we can do basicaly anything with it as long we stay within a certain framework defined by the engine. There is alot possible with this, think for example of all the sim and ui mods or how different the lobby ( when hosting) looks.
  • We can use reshade to sqeeze the last bit out from the graphics viewtopic.php?f=41&t=9969#p107978 . I have never tried it myself, but i'm curious how for example how rk's explosions would look ingame with some postprocessing applied to it.
  • We could also use different higher quality models for units, just like some sim mods use their custom models. But this would be a lot a work, so i'm not sure this will happen. Maybe if it is done one unit at a time.
