WTFast works like a VPN. Its a software that you can select (auto/manual) the best servers according to your ping.
What it does, is like instead of going through like 10 servers, it make the conection more directly, optimazing game connection -> lower ping.

Dont really know it works. For some works like magic, for others not so great.

Last month i was feedbacking with WTFast about this issue. I hired for 1 month to try if i can lower my ping.
The first emails was trying to explian what FAF was... because they have FA (on steam).

Conclusion: never worked... and never will be. I couldnt even connect to a game.

Sure FAF uses P2P communications which mean there is not one single server that their connections depend on, but still there are probably a few that might have connectivity problems to a certain country or area for whom this could help.

And ofcourse our fellow Chinese who have their own small supcom community because they can't play in faf due to connections, could have use for this.

Lyktobspankt:
We have servers all around the world. When you connect to a game server on your regular internet connection it bounces all over the place from router to router all the way from you to the game server and back. This can be a bad connection if your network is bad and can lead to lag due to latency. When you connect using WTFast you get out of your network as soon as possible and into ours which is optimised with game companies and network providers for latency. So our network should reduce both latency and stability should be improved making your game experience better

So importantly from this we can see that if people have an unstable connection, this usually makes it more stable.

Connections in FA as we know doesn't matter unless ping is > 500ms or it's unstable.
So the instability is something that can be helped, possibly. The ping as described above could also get reduced, so it's probably worth a shot for people with high ping.

I/we suspect some people did want to use the program mistakingly believing it could help them with simspeed, people just viewing that as lag that WTFast can help with, and it's just not lag in that sense.
(We also think that others will think that certain ping e.g 400 or something would cause lag, and we know that's false)
