Considering the age of the game, this might have to do with the game loading / unloading things to or from RAM on the fly. Prioritizing other things over UI. Not sure though.

I don't know if the age of the game is relevant, given that it plays perfectly under some conditions.
I think you are correct that this is tied to ram and how different tables are filled and in which order different things are executed.

This is something I have known how to do for like 5 years and it is very simple to do in non ui lag games or in sandbox.
Many average players who attempt to learn micro but have ui lag will be stuck wandering why their shit doesn't react the way it does for those trying to teach them.

Same shit goes for microing asf(although I haven't been on setons forever, I have heard that asf micro is no longer really relevant for whatever reason)

The reaction of your units from a move order will be very different, depending on your ui lag.

But thats maybe once every 30 games.

The other stuff i would say i've trained myself to pace my clicks so they dont lag, because I am sure if I click too fast some of those things they wouldn't work, but i can honestly say i never notice, probably because like a dog, i have paced out my clicks to account for this.

It probably helps a lot to be playing on a system that is a lean gaming rig though. I imagine the average person doesn't have the back ground in Windows guts like I do, keeping my services and startup apps policed, without running resource choking apps that monitor for malware, and such.

Also it doesn't hurt to run on a i7 2600k with a gtx 970... with the OS and critical apps all on an SSD.

Most serious gamers take the time to keep the rig running on an well lubed OS, with a rig purpose built to support the games they like. So its not surprising at all that most the top rated players wouldn't see much of this UI lag.

I know i'd be whining on the forums myself if I had anything lag to the point it may have had an impact on the game for me.

I've been hearing a lot about this UI lag? but i am either used to it, or never experience it.

Could someone explain or show exactly what it is?

After reading this fix... i suspect i might never see it because I play FA from an SSD, and my page file is also on an SSD.
Also i am on windows 7.

Or perhaps i am accustom to it and dont realize it?

UI lag shows up in many ways and it is possible to play with it and assume that it is the way things are for everyone.

One example: Select a group of land units, give them an order, select a group of planes, give them an order. If you do this very slowly it will work everytime with and without ui lag. If you do this too fast and you have ui lag you will end up giving another move order to your land units when you are selecting the planes.
Another example: The placement of move orders is screwed up when you are moving the camera a short time after giving the move order.
Another example are the factory menues ignoring multiple clicks.
Associated with ui lag are also messed up and dropped orders by units doing patrol and attack orders.

The worst thing about ui lag is that it varies from game to game and it source seems to be complicated. Another annoying thing about ui lag is that most good players in the game don't have it, hence them being good. I am sure some average players have it, but don't realize it. The result is that ui lag is assumed to be a combination of placebo and other bs effects people like to envoke when they don't understand something.

My hope is that others with ui lag start talking about it. Good players like Pwnable.

In my case I found the page file to be set to 16 gigs.

Also, even if you have plenty of ram, it is a good idea to keep a page file on the harddrive where supcom fa is installed. This way power saving won't kick in and turn it off from not enough usage, this will also be a pain during gameplay.

My first impression of this fix:

after being left on overnight and a windows update the computer lost a lot of the positive effect from this fix
