This entire thread just had no need to go this far. There are algorithms in place and they work, despite individual experiences people might have. This should have been locked ages ago.

It seems to me that TA likes to challenges things, just for the intellectual quality of the question in and of itself.

In this case, maybe someone will be curious too and run the numbers to see if TA actually should play Poweball or whatever low odd lottery game ;) when and if that happens, this thread will be a good place to post the results.

For other people, it's an opportunity, true randomness aside, to discuss whether or not the system should be tweaked to avoid repetitions. Why do you care if it's not locked, it's not like the forum is crawling under so many new threads that it absolutely needs active locking of stuff...

Personally I don't mind at all playing twice a map in row, three times in a row becomes a bit of a bore though. So I wouldn't mind an artificial twice in a row max limit ;)

That's provocative and uncalled for. Might just do it because of that haha

I think this thread comes down to a feature request being a non-repetitive random ladder. Now the real question is, who wants it?

I've got TA's back 100%, playing the same map can be extremely annoying.

Nice to see Lextoc back, backing me up..., will probably call me a fag soon.
However I never actually asked for something to be changed. All maps on the ladder are good enough(except maybe 1) to play many times in a row(unless you are uef on small water maps, however with enough micro the torpedo boats are unbeatable)
Also Blodir is right that it is sometimes nice to get the same map in a row, especially if you are a newer player trying to learn some basic bo. This is one of the arguments for not having a 50 map ladder rotation.

YES

I don't play ladder anymore because of this, the rating inaccuracies, etc; so if one less thing is present maybe I'll start again.

It's been a while since I've done any probability but TA, seems you are considering an 11 game sequence? But given the amount of ladder games you've played have you not run that 11 game sequence many, many times?

The question I am asking is how likely is that 11 game sequence and how many games would I need to play to expect to see that 11 games sequence 1 time. THe answer is about 70000 if you don't specify that it is rivers repeating and about 1000000 if you specifically say rivers.

Getting same map twice is annoying, three times in a row is "jast pure bullshit" and it makes me quit. I dont think it would hurt ladder thqt much if you could not get the same map for next 5 games. Cause you get same map at least twice in a row way too often

But is it for you to decide it tho?

I've seen this answer to exact same question quite some times before. Looks like majority of people are fine or even like playing same maps x times in a row/day.

The second sentence should read "overpredict" and not "underpredict".
With regard to this topic. I don't mind playing rivers all day, as long as it is not against the same opponent that consistently beats me.
