It looks like the key difference is that hdmi allows to set the scaling to either display or gpu, while dvi or display link only allow the scaling to be done on gpu.
Setting the scaling to gpu on hdmi does create lag.

So much for being exactly the same.

Therefore "tech support" should never ignore the observations a "client" makes, his theory of what happens (evil pixies messing up my ui via X-rays) can be safely ignored.

Glad you found out what happens, I thought scaling in the display could have been the issue earlier, but the graphics card does make more sense especially when it happens during longer games with lots of wrecks, fancy graphics and ASF piling up

I wish I could agree, based on everything I have read online this should not occur, hence this post.

However, the effect is unmistakable.

I played my wwpc games with hdmi cable. Then switched to display port against nexus for some ladder. Then switched back to hdmi and played some more ladder. The lag difference between these games was not mistakable.

TA4life, I'm really finding this *arduous* to believe.

It is even more difficult to disbelieve for me.
I know people keep saying things like, dvi and hdmi are electrically identical(whatever that means).
However, HDMI comes out of a different port and goes into a different port. The gpu drivers must be treating the different channels at least slightly differently, since hdmi can do rgb, YCbCr formats and you can choose what to set as "content type reported to the display" in the control panel.

Two pieces of copper are electrically the same, but you can stab people with one piece and send UDP packets through another.

Last 16 games: 13 wins, 3 losses. The 3 losses came against nexus using display port. All other games hdmi.

Well Mephi brought back the ui lag, not even hdmi can solve such bs. For me whenever sim stutters, ren also stutters. And even when I assign the two threads to different processor cores they still interact.

btw hdmi is single link dvi and they are electrically the same, hence converter plugs for dvi<->hdmi are rediculously cheap af, because it just basically reshapes the pins.

keep up with your ui lag research TA. <3 you dont know how deep the rabbit hole goes

I need to turn on vsync for that to work properly and I am not turning that pos on.

It is butter smooth on 144Hz in windows. However inside FA, there are major problems with stutter.(particularly against laggers)
There is no ui lag early on but as the game progresses it becomes apparent.
This is the problem that HDMI seems to have solved(at least for now).

One thing that hdmi allows, is to set "content type reported to the display"
that other formats do not allow.

This probably is not the cause of the issue.

You could check your refresh rate settings, maybe your computer is set to a 60+ Hz refresh rate that your monitors have trouble with. By using (old) HDMI you would limit that to 60 Hz, matching your HDMI's monitors optimal refresh rate. The DVI-D's could however send the too-high refresh rate to your monitors...

Try using a 60 Hz refresh rate, see if it makes a difference.
