OEses are actually capable of telling apart an ssd and Ram why not by default disable this feature on systems with SSDs.
it has been making PA run really bad for example.

even hard disk filesystem compression generally, not only saves space, but also makes reading files faster... the CPU can decompress these things like lzo and lz4 so fast, you win quite alot vs reading off a slow HD.

of course, SSD doesn't count...

but who has less than 4GB nowadays?

I'd say the peer-to-peer connection is and always will drive this issue. You can do some client-side tweaks here and there, but most people with trash internet/PC just ruin the experience.

given how fast internet spread and speeds are progressing this issue is bound to subside and the strengths of P2P are going to start to shine.

let's not forget : if FA wasn't built on P2P tech FAF and all it's community would have never been possible.

I actually can't quite imagine how much more numerous and how much more motivated we'd all have had to be to support this game had it been on the server-client model and (BY LUCK!) the server code/exe graciously donated to us. the best case scenario i can imagine is us renting out server grids and constantly migrating to keep up with competitive prices. the servers would have been down way more often than they have been.

not really. I just googled some and found some things that seem to imply that.

how do you know its not just network latency for the ui commands to get recognized by other player? that would explain 1-2day fixes

I know that network settings have a big effect and uploading a youtube video while playing completely kills the ui.

I play with default net_LAG 500, and most players I play with and have lag to have ping around 200. Americans with low pings typically are a pleasure to play with.
A chinese player gets an automatic win from me because I will not even attempt the game.

All of the above said, there have been days when 200 pings players are also a pleasure to play with.

Also increasing net_LAG to something like 700, does help ui lag, but then it is much harder to dodge bombs.

I think this effect does not explain the 1-2 day fixes. It does explain the player to player variation.
My sample size of players per day is too large.

Also I will not be making images of my harddrive whenever I find good settings, since system restore doesn't get all the settings back it seems.(this points to windows update)

Don't think I have had this problem. People are saying their system process is taking up all their ram..
My system process has 124 private kbytes right now.

Check mark all the options in the privacy lab. I have not gone through the trouble of determining which ones are critical. Please post any info you may know.

This is where I originally found this:

I have only had a couple online games since getting this but the difference is quite dramatic.
