I quit the game and now you bitches play my map. LOL the irony :) Hope yall enjoy it. Feel free to make any changes you like.

You quit the game but stay on the forum? What a classic. Let me tell you something: The only way to truly leave this game is in a body bag.

Well known example: crap of lowhan does grass right. despite its gameplay deficiencies, it is a good looking map

spread out with dirt... even ignoring any heightmap features assuming it was just flat grass, it at least has some random detail interspersed there, the dirt mixed with the grass looks 5x better than either would alone, stuff like that can REALLY help to make perfectly symmetrical maps look visually appealing, while being symmetric in features, heightmap, reclaim etc, but allow to use decal and stratum mixture to give some variation.

Yea, honestly, that is one of these things that I am just too lazy to do :D Detailing half the map is annoying enough, I am glad I can mirror/ rotate it when I'm done :D

Trust me, I do have maps that I was not willing to show to the public

oh i believe it...

but sometimes simple things make all the difference... lighting is especially important too...

LOKI comes to mind with lighting actually, its low angle sun seems to help alot in discerning height differences that can be sometimes notoriously difficult in FA without actually lowering the camera, or having decals to help exaggerate the height difference. Also loki again, mixes it's grass but with rock rather than dirt.

I do wish more mappers had your taste in aesthetics... despite it's age you've shown that FA is capable of some truly gorgeous maps... i think you really hit the spot with goodlands as a >this is how it should be done< deal.

... and then you see something with a tiny grass texture stretched to the point of pixelation despite filtering, and layer transitions that are akin to barf... zero decals, near non-existant lighting...

being a mapper? how hard is it really to make something look semidecent? or is it really just you have taste and aren't willing to release something that looks crap with your name on it? are there any simple advices you could give to avoid making maps that look worse than TA?

"bebert" seen in a gyle cast recently comes to mind...

I'm not lionhardt, but it is really, really hard trying to get a good strata combo (you can sometimes spend a week just trying to get a good combination). And then the actual brush, spreading the strata, making it look good. The decals are just plain cancer though, not really well done but you have to live with them (maybe a week straight of just decaling too).

Then you'd heightmap has to look good. Erosion (people have started using world machine for this), natural looking terrain, good cliffs, good props too.

The reclaim is complete bullshit as well. It is utterly asymmetrical. The eastern team has TONS more rocks.
