If each player can designated a certain fraction of their resources to count as a shared resource, and then everyone on the team sees exactly how much this is. It would definitely add to the game.

Also sharing engineers is a lot different than sharing pgens/mexes

Now imagine a shared resource pool in a galactic war style format. A bonus is given based on a player's rank in the war and the amount of critical mass point positions that are given in the galactic war map. something like 1/10 maps in the war is a bonus map.

Another solution could be to create / allocate a "shared resource pool" which the team allies can draw from. Current ecomanager implementation isn't optimal, it's better if this is regulated sim side. Then you could dynamically change everyone's resources based on the shared pool.

On the short term, after 3652 is released I'll see if I can get ally overflow into the game so you at least can see how much your allies overflow at a given time, would be good with some UI improvements also. I don't like the current mass/energy economy overlay, it's too small / cramped.

Would it be possible for two players to designate engineers or factories to be "shared"
which would mean that these engineers are now allowed to get resources from either player?

A similar situation can be achieved by setting sharing thresholds to zero using the above eco manager mod and then all units are essentially taking resources from both players.

The control over the shared engineers is open ended. If control is given to both players it really opens up the game to new possibilities.
