If you are in properties you can sort threads by CPU usage, ren and sim will always be in top 4. Another thing is, you can set ren thread as soon as you join lobby. With sim you have to wait till game starts, but if you have them sorted by CPU usage it will be at the top.

Process Hacker remembers the settings, so it will be always sorted by CPU usage. At least I have it like that ^^
Another thing would be that I dont know if I clicked on something, but I always have ren sim and one other thread highlighted by yellow color, so super easy to hit the right one

could run me through the whole process of what you do please?

Core0 has a bunch of interrupts, mainly caused by invidia drivers and there is no much that can be done. (Note this didn't use to be the case a couple years ago, so some of these issues could be new)
The in game window ren_showbandwidthusage shows moments when a lot of commands are sent out (light orange), this appears to cause stutter in some cases. Giving orders to multiple factories, or giving spread attack moves, appear to be the biggest culprits in making the orange curve spike.
Summary:
Assigning both ren and sim to core0 gave the worst fps drops.
Assigning sim to core0 and ren to core1 and core2, gave good results but there were still some fps drops.
Assigning sim to core 3 and ren to core1 and core2, gave best results in the video.
You can also see that besides ren and sim threads there is another thread, which has relatively high cpu usage. By default it is assigned to core3 and has high priority. It especially seems to fluctuate and have high values (a few percent) during many player many unit games. On setons it actually dominates over the sim thread at the very start.
Conclusion:
Perhaps the best thread assignment is. Leave core0 completely unoccupied. Assign ren, sim to core1 and core2. Leave core3 for the other mystery thread.

Please do tests on your systems, figure out what works.

Yes. It would be nice if people would post whether or not this makes any difference for them and their system specs. Crotalus could you be more specific about exactly which software you want us to use to test exactly what things, and exactly what buttons to push in the above software.

I have 4790k with hyperthreading off on win 8.1.

Get Windows 10 you noob :P

I mostly notice its impacts late game, or in crazy heavy moments in any game really. Best impact is on Phantoms, FFAs, and Epic long massive teamgames.
TAs trick really is 1 up on what I did in regards to UI fluidity late game, or in crazy hectic moments, but not sure if it gives the same sim % gain; regardless both are epic performance tweaks.

But that's probably because I have this PC:

i5-4670k @ 4.3 Ghz
2x Gigabyte GTX 770s
16 gigs DDR3 1600Mhz
2x Sammy 250 gig 840 SSD
Asus Z-97A Mobo

I run the game at the highest settings spare shadows being set to "low." I highly recommend reducing shadow detail by the way...
