I first heard about sup com way back in middle school when it first came out, I was totally taken in by its concept of grand scale strategy and sweet looks, at this point my video game life considered primarily of getting curb stomped by my friends at fps games and way too much Warcraft 3. But at the time my family computer could barely run good old Warcraft, so sup com was way out of the question.
Any way fast forward to about a year ago and I picked up vanilla sup com at a garage sale and played with a few of my online acquaintances without the assistance of faf. Plus the campaigns. Let it drop for a while, I couldn't really figure out how to get a functioning economy and blazes were my favorite unit. Yeah, I was that bad...
Then I stumbled on gyles videos and had to try again. The game just looked so good! Bought FA, downloaded faf, jumped into some noob games and got eaten alive by people who could actually get their economy past t1. Armed with gyles cybran hate and a love of t2 I picked sera as my main race and started playing 1v1s and team games. Setons is awesome although everyone seemed to think t1 sub rush was the only way to play. So I always seemed to either play navy and win my slot or play front and lose everything from my base to my calm demeanor via uef cruisers. Still haven't totally figured that one out...
Lost any and all interest in Gap of Rohan, it's such a turtle map! And people would always build hives and steal my economy! Gyle was right to hate the chip heads. But sera wasn't serving very well either, I couldn't seem to get an eco to support ilshie production. Really I could not eco worth a damn still and half of the units were still a bit fuzzy on the details.
Then I found BRNKOINSANITY's wonderful tutorials, that helped a huge amount. Learning unit details and a bit about eco. Stuck with sera a while longer and dabbled in uef. Now I have betrayed my faf roots and usually play cybran, I prefer the aggressive play. And megaliths are by far my favourite t4 now. Especially when you get to the point on setons where you've won your navy slot and can devote most of your eco to throwing a bunch of them at the shore.
I'm rocking a 900 team game rank now and I'm pretty sure I must be on the cusp of 1000, I forget what my 1v1 ladder rank is but I'm gonna start playing more of those games. Hopefully get past the point of having either complete noobs who have t1 pd in their base before the first shot is fired and people who routinely stomp me with superior multi tasking and faster play. Also want to pull off a beetle snipe at some point. Those look very satisfying. (Though the recieving end of annoying as hell.)
Here's to a great game and awesome plays, many thanks to Gyle and Brnk for stirring up my interest in this game and make the learning curve slightly less steep.Statistics: Posted by Tylosaur — 07 Nov 2015, 19:00
