The way I'd see clan wars working in a finished state would consist of three competitive arenas: 1v1, 2v2 and team play (likely 4v4). These arenas would be broken down by rating brackets and also would be an ongoing thing, much like in WWPC.

I imagined the 1v1 arena running in a round-robin, season-based format, where players duke it out for seeding positions, then going through a best-of-3 playoffs (again like WWPC). Every few months depending on the # of people involved, a new season would begin and the whole thing repeats. The leaderboard would track both the individual's and each clan's standings - the best analogy I can come up with is like the system in F1 racing. I would also suggest a future upgrade for the clan pages to display the achievements they earn from this system.

The 2v2 would generally work like the 1v1, although the bracketing could instead be done by the cumulative rating of the two players as opposed to a flat-bracket (ex. in a max 3000 bracket, a team could be 2x 1500s or a 2000 + 1000, as long as the sum equals no more than 3000). It'd open up some interesting matchups and give more flexibility to smaller clans when working with the bracket system, although I know some people would not like this system for various reasons such as balance, or the lower-rated player doing nothing but feeding their ally.

Team-based matchups, again, would function however the former two do. In both team formats, a clan can field as many teams as they want to, with the caveat that the more teams they register, the higher likelihood they may end up fighting each other.

Any clan member would be eligible to enroll in any number of arenas they choose for their bracket. Match scheduling would have to work in a fashion that exact conflicts do not occur, and would take place at a fixed time + day each week that allow as many people to participate as possible while minimizing time-zone conflicts.

As far as the TD question goes, I think this will take at least three of them to run. No one person, unless they have absolutely no other commitments could run even the 1v1 by themselves without some sort of process-lag or the potential of burning out. Plus, more TDs means the other TDs can actually participate too, instead of being totally hosed with the administrative work.

The last thing I would suggest is to hold an IRC discussion to drum up more interest, gauge numbers, bounce ideas around in real time, and start trying to organize everything. Forum threads are great and all, but they're not a great measure of overall activity, plus some people are too lazy to read the forums, so informing them via #aeolus and involving them helps too.

The hardest thing will be to find a TD motivated and organized enough for it. we already saw 10 topics of random people making an attempt of clanwar, which of course never even started.

Kryo, Grumbll, and Zep more recently organized those very well, we should continue the intergalactic coliseum tradition imo.
Just need to find the TD. /me looks at speed2 :)

I may not be correct in this (So dont assume I'm speaking for the TD group) but I believe that once there is ACTUALLY a tourney concept and you've got everything sorted out, a TD will help you host your first tourney and afterwards you will officially be a TD. Existing TD's have access to the faftd account and they would use it for you the first time, and then you'd gain access to it. Just get everything set up and depending on my free time I'd be happy to help you out, otherwise we always Make Gorton do it. Again, if im incorrect then its me being dumb, not as a result of the entire TD team, that is all.

I'm letting as many comments, ideas and opinions roll in as possible before making decisions or giving a timeframe for a start. We are definitely still getting good input from the community on this, and I think the thread is still new enough that many of the people interested in something like this, still haven't had a voice here yet.

Keep it up guys!

And about this topic here is now anything planned? Havent realized that anything is decided yet. Maybe it is time to start with a tournament and prepare a ladder system ask the responsible people what is possible what is not possible. But please after the summer holidays because it seems that i am alone atm :o was checking with !seen activity today and last seen my VIP teamgame people 20 or more days ago ...
