That's a real shame - I love shields. Playing compstomps against the AI and shielding up for the long-haul is great cooperative experience :(

The shields weren't nerfed to the ground, and you can still turtle with them. They were tweaked to make withstanding prolonged T3 static artillery bombardments harder.

That's the thing - if there's vanilla SupCom, why not just have vanilla FA as well? It'd serve as a nice gateway for anyone hesitant to make the switch (like me), and would thus attract more players to FAF. Isn't having more options in the spirit of FAF, as I understand it?

Vanilla Supcom has had no extra stuff added to it so having that one version there does not detract from itself or FAF. Having multiple versions on FA on FAF will fracture the amount of people on average playing the same build and by extension, fracture the community. Plus there are very few people playing on Steam these days so there is no real benefit to it.

With regards to your later question about the balance, it really is a significantly better game than it used to be you really just have to get your head around the fact that some of your toys operate slightly differently to how they did before. In respect of shielded bases on big AI compstop games, there are still plenty of mods that can help with that sort of thing and many others (like T4 shields for example) and with FAF they are much easier to locate install and play with then on Steam.

Yeah all files are there, a mod wouldn't be difficult to do afaik. Just nobody wants to do it :D

Forgive me, but do mods work with FAF? I would've thought it'd only be vetted mods approved by the community or something.

Sure, you'll just have to find someone to do it. The thing is, nobody who has played FAF wants to go back to vanilla FA, so you'll have a hard time finding someone to de-grade the game for you.

Aren't all the original files and stats already in? Or does FAF replace it all?
