Increase T3 Engineer Movement Speed

Postby 5cript » 30 Jun 2018, 16:45

I have started a discussion about T3 engineer movement speed here: https://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic. ... 80#p164976
(following onwards for a few pages).

TLDR:
T3 engineers are the slowest unit of FAF. Taking twice as much time to reach a target than SACUs do (almost).
A buff in speed would do the following things:
- Decrease path finding hell, by making t3 engineers more useable in contrast to t1 engineers, also getting them out of t1 clumps faster, without affecting T1 engys, so no change in play is needed.
- Help with building T4. You either go tons of T1 engineers, engineering stations (only 2 factions have them) or SACUs, T3 engineers could become a more viable option.
- Not affect balance (much). All factions get faster engineers and nobody gets an upper hand over the other. Factions without engy stations at least can use t3 engineers more.
- Decrease ETAs on Builds further away.

This buff in speed wouldn't change FAF in a big way. It would only decrease hassle.
which is why I request to bump t3 engineer speed to t2 engy level and increasing acceleration accordingly to fit the new speed.

EDIT: A more sophisticated proposal was made by McNeil / PsychoBoB: https://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic. ... 80#p165000
(even though I think the T2 buff in his proposal in speed is over the top (t1 should still be the fastest among engineers), but lets all be open to the numbers)

Just saying, every faction can get the same thing but it can still drastically affect overall balance and game meta.

You are right of course, but compared to previous patching this is nothing.
Its not like everyone will at one point delete all t1 engies and replace 'em with t3 or something. t1 and t3 are still equivalent in efficiency regarding BP/mass and faster and more versatile. Nobody will switch to t3 engineers for reclaim. Nobody will replace their factory assist with t3 engineers now.

t3 engies:
sera - very short range teleportation... instant or almost instant consuming little E (wonder what would be other uses other than to get unstuck)
UEF - just faster (maybe some combat buffs)
aeon - don't collide with other land units and get smaller speed buff (probably collide with each other)
cybran - more build range (2x or so idk)

changes like that would be sure fun... but i might have gone to far...

While it sounds nice I think these fall far outside preexisting fAcTIoN dIvERsITy themes.

Nice ideas, but don't make it to complicatet. A small speed and buildrange buff for all factions would be enough for now, i think.
The only thing that would be to consider is to turn collisions with the ACU off. This could save many lives! :D

t3 engis had the speed before int the past, but they could never teleport.
There are arguments for this to be a healthy change, so no reason for ridiculing it. (in the balance release thread)
