Beginner Tips for an Experienced Player

Postby ClockworkAlex » 05 Sep 2016, 04:50

I have been playing FAF since the beginning SINGLE PLAYER only. I am wanting to start playing online competetively and was looking for any beginner tips or strats I need to be aware of when playing online compared to offline.

I was looking some FAF Cast from Gyle, and this one could be a nice example, how humans play.

Its 40 minutes long, but Gyle comments are very entertaining and the game is thrilling :)

If you were playing vs. FA AIs, then you already know that they raid you. Players will do the same so you will have to raid back.
If you were playing vs. Vanilla AIs... then it will be harder... those AIs simply turtle and let you take up the whole map. Few players do that because turtling is a bad strategy. So you will have to unlearn turtling, if you got used to doing it.

Then there is this ( http://wiki.faforever.com/index.php?tit ... s#Trainers ) group of people who can help you learn by teaching you.
Don't complain about that which you aren't willing to change.

I highly recommend this tutorial series from Heaven as well as this slightly older tutorial series from various people.

You can also upload a replay here. Then it's easier for us to see where you can improve.

Hotbuilding and hotkey setup is something you do to fit you specifically. Press F1 ingame and scroll down until you see hotbuilding and hotkeys. Then set them up the way you feel comfortable and beware that if you use Ctrl-L to select all land units, you might want to 1) rebind it to some otehr key; 2) install suicide confirmation (UI mod) otherwise you will see this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMm4-g6aciU if you misclick (self-destruct is by default set to Ctrl-K, L is right next to it)
Don't complain about that which you aren't willing to change.
