Ingame Unit Descriptions

So as part of the Tweak Pack I have started to rewrite all of the ingame unit descriptions to better reflect what they do, help newbies out, give extra info, and bring them up do date with any changes to the unit. I believe that putting this in as an actual FAF change will be easy, yes PilOt?

However, for some reason I cannot get it to work as a mod. I have tried hooking it and hard-overwriting it, and it just won't bite. PilOt, is there any reason this won't work, or should I maybe be putting it somewhere other than lua/ui/help?

I think the descriptions are part of the language packs, not directly in the BPs. That's maybe why it doesn't work on your tests?

I'm just striaght re-writing lua/ui/help/unitdescriptions.lua

It doesn't work ni my mod no matter where I put it. modname/lua/ui/help, modname/hook/lua/ui/help, neither of these work. Pretty sure FAF hard overwrites it though, so if you want them to go main-game once I'm done, that should be easy.

in faforever.nxt there is a localization file under:
LOC\(US or w.e.)\strings_db.lua
in there somewhere in the middle are unit descriptions, as well as a lot of other things

i can also confirm that the unit descriptions change if you change the in-game language, so i think that they are indeed overwritten

I see them... I have managed to get my unitdescriptions.lua to hook correctly and show that it is hooking in the log. However, the changes still aren't active. Why is the LOC file not loading the new ones?

As SAKO_X noted, you're not supposed to touch unitdescriptions.lua. The texts in there are primarily so you don't just have an identifier like <LOC Unit_Description_0xxx> and no text to judge what it's about.

Patch up strings_db.lua with your changes instead.

It's all working apart from that ridiculous error. You fancy debugging it, just download the Serious Tweaks V3, it has it in there.

OK then these are done. Before final submission I want as many people as possible to look at this and suggest changes, PARTICULARLY to things like the T2 Mobile Stealth Generator, which now has a tip. I want more tips!
