Mention or Ping players in lobby with @username

Hello,

just a random thought:

Let me ping or mention players in the lobby with @username.

Maybe a sound/popup to wake them up (you can disable this of course in the settings).

Would be much easier than alt+tab, look for the player in the list, PM him, alt tab back. Takes several clicks and is just annoying if you have to do that very often.

Or even just the ability to ping them when you click on their name. e.g. right click, and have both the private message option, and "ping" option.

If somebody adds a button for this in the lobby UI (that sends an "x pinged y" message in chat) I can implement a system notification in the ice adapter. (with rate limiting, based on the chat message gpgnet notification)

Alternatively we can show a client notification or send a chat message to the other person from the client based on the gpgnet message. (which makes adding the option to disable the feature more trivial)

Debated this with people on Zulip, was rejected due to already existing game full notification and abuse potential.

I'm not sure if the game full notification is sufficient because people seem to ignore it, since sometimes someone leaves after the last person joined, so it can be meaningless. Certainly it is a big improvement though. But could you prevent the abuse of pings by limiting it to one per 30 seconds or something?

No
Not only can multiple pings be needed to indicated which units need to do what. But urgent situations are often pinged more as a solitary ping is often ignored.
