Make connectivity visible in lobbies

Postby SpoCk0nd0pe » 08 Feb 2017, 17:29

I have a simple suggestion:

Let us see if people forwarded their ports properly, or if they have a proxy connection in the lobby.

hosts get a message telling them who is not connected to whom upon trying to launch a game and people see a "connecting to..." to people they are not connected with yet
not having ports forwarded properly doesn't always mean that someone won't be able to connect

The idea is to know who might be responsible, not just seeing the result.

You're asking for a change that may bring more harm than good.

Yeah because seeing who is causing connection problems is not helpful at all game works just fine regardless lol. There were yellow nicks on GPG as an indication who had any connection issues no idea why this was removed, you could tell some noob to re while still waiting on game to fill up instead of figuring out who is the problem once everyone x'ed. The messages displayed to the host are not exactly easiest to read especially if there is more then 1 person causing issues and not all hosts know what is going on.

no need to signup for anything, just start working on something and then create a Pull Request with your code. For more information see the FAF github page:
https://github.com/FAForever/fa#contributing

the suggestion you had is already being worked on though (started a few month before you suggested it) have a look at this PR: https://github.com/FAForever/fa/pull/1663
this doesnt mean you shouldnt contribute though :) if its not coding wise, you can help with testing and free development time from the developers.
Check out the next level of maps: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=13014
For adaptivity, customizability and less clutter in the vault.
