Even after re-reading your post I'm not sure when you mean polemic and when you mean problematic. I hope I got the spirit of your post.
Yes, my last post is polemic. Area commands isn't an automation tool. It is a UI feature present in many RTS titles since 1999, especially if they deal with lots of units and have more of a "bigger scope" feel.
Area Commands is far from removing your need to think. It is often worse then attack move and usually worse then manual reclaim. It is mostly a substitute for attack move, which is a weird mechanic.
Some stuff is well accepted because people are used to using it. If you introduced Area Commands, it would be well accepted very fast too. People would see it doesn't replace manual reclaim and it doesn't replace thinking, it just makes some of the clunky FAF UI easier. Stuff like Hotbuild and mex assist upgrade provides way more gain at high level play. People have long accepted those as normal because you could just use them as UI mods. If Area Commands was a UI mod, nobody would argue about it.
