How to stop t2 transports?

Postby stalewee » 28 Feb 2013, 23:06

This is mainly in relation to Seton's. If I'm playing navy and I suspect that my opposition is going to send t2 transports at around 9-10 minutes, what should I be doing to stop that?

I've tried interceptors, but they're slower than the transport so they only get one or two shots off.

I can build a dozen t1 tanks, but that only protects my base and he can just fly past and drop on someone else.

Do I have to get t2 air and go fighter bombers?

t1 bombers would be a very cheap and efficient solution, unless he drops t2 flak. Kill a few with ints, whats left, kill with bombers.

If he drops engies, you must be very fast and have the bomber already in position tho, or he will make AA turrents.

Right, so don't try to take out the transport, just kill the stuff he drops

a single T2 Flak can kill every T1 unit in the transport while it is playing

Yeah, that's fairly inexpensive, although I generally wouldn't have a t2 land factory by that stage.

Also, it really only defends myself, unless I can pump out flaks early enough to send them to others, which is unlikely.

If we are specifically talking about Seton's here, I have flak and AA around, but in my queue for the engy spam I seed in LABs. They are really fast to respond to drops, and have decent DPS in numbers. With those I can get in fast and kill off any engies that were dropped, and I also have a light response to a single transport worth of units. If you are talking about a full on t2 combat drop, then you are pretty well screwed if you aren't prepared. In that case bombers and gunships are your best bet, t1 bombers if it is as early as 10 minutes.

As a side note, by the time you get to 15-20 minutes you can just run all the labs to one spot, ctl-K and reclaim the mass... I have about 30 built by 15 minutes most games. They are cheap and very handy early game.
