The main upsides are a really powerful UI (see w*ww.youtube.c*om/watch?v=if8g0YIDJ7s for a example), a lot of unit diversity (over 100 units) and a lot of uses of terrains and physics (more than Total Annihilation), if you don't care these things, or think a bigger scale and more fluent zooming are much more important, or you really dislike the idea of TA-like mechanisms without assassination victory or the idea of factory construction based teching, then there is no reason to play it.
