*POSSIBLE* New Rig

Postby IceDreamer » 29 Sep 2012, 02:21

I'm thinking of moving from the Laptop I'm using now to building my dream rig. My question to you guys is this: If you were to build an insane rig, would you spend the money you have now, and build a machine capable of running pretty much anything, or would you wait a few more months, say, 5, then spend the extra 500 pounds to build it with a double water cooling loop, and mod the case???

Specs in the range of:

HD8990 (When Released)
i73770K/Top Piledriver core AMD (When released)
>6TB storage
16/32GB RAM
120Hz Monitor
Water Cooling Loop????????

Go with the i7, amd is teh sux.
Get an SSD, not 7TB hdd.
8 RAM is fine, most games use < 4gb. Buy good quality ram.( Contrary to popular belief, more ram will not make your computer go warp speed.)
Water cooling is not necessary, fans work fine.
22"+ monitors are cool, 120hz is cool too.
Gcard looks fine.
Get a good mobo, I see your missing one.

I would buy it right now, waiting forever wont get you anything, and you will be able to run things maxed for 3+yrs.

Cannot yet tell if the UNRELEASED AMD processors are going to be better than i7s, as they are... Oh yer, UNRELEASED. Saying one or the other before release is simple ignorance.
At least one SSD was included in that 6TB figure.
More RAM can be used to run more than games, and as a super-drive if I need it. I do video editing and photoshop more than occasionally, and I have maxed my current 8GB of RAM more than once.
Fans work fine, water cooling looks cooler.
IKR
Yup, though GTX780 when released is on the table too.
Don't need to list one for an 'In the range of' breakdown lol. FYI it will also have 2 Blu-Ray drives, a 7.1 Sound Card, Bluetooth, and a Network card.

Waiting gets me bragging rights and a cooler looking rig, but less money :/

AMD will be sucking for the foreseeable future, its just the way of things, the way of the force. I still have a soft spot for the 2600k cause they overclock like beasts and run much cooler. Then the rest is really what ever you need as far as graphics and hard drives go. I highly recommend SSD for any use tho, once you tried it, you wont go back.

ZOB has had a successful brain transplant. 3770k, 16gb fast ram, 240gb intel 520 SSD on Asrock Z77Extreme4. Using the Intel
HD4000 graphics I played an 80square map against 7 or 8 ai with the graphics on medium, no AA.This thing is rapid. Ater an hour i had about 5-600 units andi killed most of the ais then i got bored. It was slowing down a bit after 500 units but turbo is turned off so it was at 3.5 gig while i make sure it's happy before turbo and/or oc. I'm using air cooling. The ram is running at 1600 but should do 2100 no worries. I want to see how far I can go before I have to get a video card. I think there's a major intel video driver update i'm missing. Now i need to install browser anti virus blah blah whatevz, it should take a day or so, then you can all massacre me to your heart's content. Yay!
