Looks cool, although I'm dead set against the pay as you go ethos.

I also am disdainful of pay as you go. But, I like TF2. PA may work.

Chris Taylor isn’t involved in it, John Mavor is the lead guy. He did loads of the technical side of things on TA and Supcom, plus he’s got a whacking great artillery named after him. :D

Here’s an interview with Mavor: http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/08/15/planetary-annihilation-interview/

EDIT: There’s a gameplay mockup video on the Kickstarter page, plus you can donate towards it. It looks like it’s taking a bit from Supcom2 (the unit cannon) and bizarrely a fair bit from Angry Birds Space, but mostly it looks like a lovely TA/FA update. As long as it has TA/FA eco (likely I would say) and they find a way to make late game not utterly stupid, this could be on a par with FA...

Also, the voiceover guy on that Kickstarter video sounds very much like the voiceover guy from Total Annihilation's intro. Seems Mavor’s really putting his cards on the table... :) EDIT again, yep it’s definitely him.

I can't figure out how to embed the TA intro, so here's a link to Youtube for voice comparison.

The game is being made by Uber Entertainment. The team comprises of several ex-GPG people and they made Monday Night Combat as their first game. I think you should think more of a game in that setting, rather than TA.

Still, one of the employees seems to know what he's doing.

Actually I wouldn't mind if the game chooses to stylize its units, even in a cartoonish sense.
I think that's one reason the original Red Alert is still so enjoyable. :D
