as i have already kind of predicted here: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=3211

the guys, who program p.a. want to discourage micro management and think that the possibilities in gameplay are too big in supcom. the level of detail (which will not be more than shown in the live stream) does not look better than supcom (i think it actually looks worse). just watch these to hear and see for yourself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQavbTGaJtQ

hearing all this, just confirms my pessimistic view of p.a. unfortunately, i have to say.
what do you think about the direction p.a. goes?

So few units, and how the units move just feels unnatural. I think I enjoyed having all of the redundant units that TA did, there were many that you would never build in crunch time, but would just for fun.

The scale for big vs small units seems off too.

As far as the visuals go, I like it but the sound if very childish.

Awww that is very sad news and confirm my pessimistic forecasts about how the game is shaping.....

Seems like PA will be a simplified rts concerning multitasking and planets management. Skill in moving army and combat won't be fundamental....and this is very bad , if it doesn't involve micro it's not competitive in the way i like..

I see it like an empty game, like a well dressed good looking woman but with stinky armholes.....

Thanks for the links.

I know it's only alpha, but I'm quite underwhelmed. It looks like the game will be all about moving icons, even more than supcom, and it looks very simplistic, with a poor sense of scale on top of that.

completely agreed pip, "underwhelmed" is the perfect quote to describe how I feel about footage ive seen so far.
a lot will change however, leading up to final release. but at this point, you have to wonder what "endgame" will be like.
put simply, I think PA will be a "shiny new toy", but wont have the same long lasting appeal as FAF.

I find that insulting when a game is stating me the obvious ("press X to open the door" the 20th time I see a door).

i totally agree with you!

unfortunately, i cannot imagine a way how this game can still become a great game.

either it will be a bad game, which you mainly play on one planet or it will be turned into a game with a lot of automation and you fight on at least 5 planets. either way my high expectations of this game were ruined a couple of months ago...

i hope i will be wrong in the end and that they will publish a lot of great addons/extensions to the game. but i cannot see the release version to come close to supcom...

PA download about 150 ko/sec. That's what the server need to upload/player.

So about 9 mb/second of replay, 270 mb for a 30 min skirmish game on a little planet..
