Consistent disconnect from one person

Postby Crap_Bag » 13 Mar 2017, 14:02

My friend (Selen) and i consistently disconnect from each other every game. It only occurs between us, we have no problems with anyone else. the disconnect usually happens at about 8 minutes in but it can go longer. We have tried forwarding our ports through our providers and everything we could think of. We aren't on the same network and have both reinstalled supcom and faf. It happens in other games too although it usually lasts longer than faf. I was informed that i need to "create a proxy" between us, i have no idea how to do this. We would really appreciate some help in this matter :)
i have attached my game.log and forever.log file, let me know if you want anything else.

FAF has problems with ppl being in the same network. I dont wanna bore u with the reason for it but it is known for years. So one of u would probably need to use a vpn(google that it is not that hard). Otherwise FAF is working on a new connectivity called ICE. Once that gets deployed u problem is solved checkout out discord we do regular tests with ICE there.

If you only you and your friend want to play (without others) in same game, you could use the ICE test client:

Join the "ice-testing" channel on FAF Discord and downloaded the lastest Beta ICE client from link posted by "Sandwormsurfer". It is a different server so you cannot see the games from the normal server, but this allows you to reconnect on disconnect and also play in the same LAN and without ipv6 problems and stuff (use game mod "FAF Develop" when creating game, automatic map download may not work).

Automatic map download should work, you can use any game mod, I don't know if the newest server is deployed, so if you get no connection to someone this is likely due to the server not forwarding your ice messages (server bug, not ice related), in that case restart the client. (which isn't necessary using ICE normally)

Is there a place to read about ICE client? I would be interested in participating in testing an FAF client that allows multiple LAN computers to play FAF over LAN or mixture of multiple LAN + multiple Internet users.

My home LAN has multiple gaming computers, all with Steam and Supreme Commander Gold Edition, so family and friends can play LAN and LAN + Internet games. Three of the family play FAF coop or skirmish when we can get it to work over LAN. The three of us also play with up to three other people over the Internet.

I also have two Gigabit LANs each connected to their own Gigabit ISP, Google Fiber and AT&T Fiber. The two LANs are connected only through Internet routes. I have moved computers between the two LANs via patch panel cables to play FAF coop / skirmish games with my two boys.

I have a bit of experience with switching protocols, routing protocols, operating systems, network elements (switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, etc), programming, network capture and analysis, testing, documentation, network cabling, and a few other things.

I have a passion for Supreme Commander and want to enjoy FAF with my family (LAN) and in-laws (over Internet).

For testing, you can use `!subscribe ICE Tester` on the FAF discord to get notified about ICE Tests.

The source code for the adapter csn be found on github.
how to join a test game: viewtopic.php?f=45&t=16844
How to host one viewtopic.php?f=45&t=16845

Sadly there is currently some testing going on on the FAF Test Server requiring a non ice server. So the python client which connects to that will probably not work.(the server needs to forward messages between the adapters for them to succeed at connecting to each other.

I will take a look this (european) evening to see if I can create a build of the java client (downlords client) which connects to yet another test server running the java server. This one should stay pretty untouched normally so you might be able to play there. Is a windows build enough or do you need a linux one aswell?

You can find a build that connects to the java test server here:
https://geosearchef.de/dfc_windows-x64_ ... _12_14.exe

Use at your own risk, the adapter is still in developement stage and may cause unnecessary memory usage, cpu load or network traffic.
You can use any username and password combination. Keep in mind that coop may not work on the test server, additionally there are probably no maps/mods in the vault but you can download them using the normal client (or double clicking the faf logo on the login screen and setting the first address to lobby.faforever.com and the last address to https://api.faforever.com) from the production server and then use them on the test server.

Thank you for the information. We only use Windows 10 for FAF / Supreme Commander.
