Quad core optimization?

Postby miganders » 09 Dec 2012, 13:45

I was playing a game against AI and I noticed only one of my 3570k's 4 cores being used.
Is there a way to optimize the game for 4 cores?

PS: Love FAF, until yesterday I didn't even know such a community for my favorite game existed :D

FA is mono-threaded, so sadly, no.

there are more than 2 threads, but apart from the simulation and the video output thread none uses
significant cpu resources.

The simulation is not multithreaded, and in the case of a game like FA, that the only thing that really matter.

CoreMaximiser works fine with FAF. Run as admin with XP compatibility if you get problems.

Core maximazer does nothing. It won't magically thread FA.

What it does is setting the core affinity, something that is NOT needed on modern CPU and windows superior to XP.

If you still have XP, you probably should update to a modern OS (XP is 11 years old), you will have better performances overall.

I thought it split threads across different cores? So you're saying it's useless for Vista or Win 7? I noticed an improvement but I suppose maybe it was the placebo effect.

if it was able to automatically split a thread across many cores you would have a single product billion dollar company right there. in other words: such a magic tool isnt possible. to make the supcom simulation multithreaded requires redesigning the code.
