It won't work on linux, and no port is planned.

it does work, at least up to the point where the unique id is verified and i was just in the middle of doing the port.

That part (and probably tons of others parts) won't work on linux.

is it not possible to login without supplying a unique id. make it impossible to play a game then.
i just want to see it working on linux, if only for watching replays or to do some coding on the client.

Would take too much time for the amount of players using linux.

probably, because linux is so a blooming platform for games ...
Even if it was 10 players (and I'm pretty sure it's less than that), it wouldn't worth my time.
We are talking of :
Making me install linux on my PC. I have to reformat my HD, try to configure it (gaps), ...
A day of work if I'm lucking.
Installing all my dev tools. Trying to do a port of the unique id dll. Try to make it work with the client. Probably more than a week.
Trying every other feature of the client, and try if it works. It probabbly won't, spend another week fixing them.
Doing that is taking time I won't spend on anything else, like the avatars, ...
Then, on every feature I will add, I will have to check that it works also on linux. That's a loss of time everytime I do something. Really not worth it for me.
Even if it was 10 players (and I'm pretty sure it's less than that), it wouldn't worth my time.

or you can require the unique id only for playing games and not watching replays and wait for patches coming in.

Still too much work.
The livereplay and update server are not dependent of the uniqueId, you have access to the client code, feel free to do a remote updater if you want.
