cause they are easy to play, i guess
Like Isis, thermo, and maybe gap of rohan and all of other maps are like 4v4 quadriple winter duel where you can have a teamplay by sending planes to your ally

Because, people play them most often!
There is a huge number of "open" maps, but people do not play them.
How often do you see open palms hosted as a fun game?
Now, how often do you see, isis, thermo, waters of isis, teh setons, named as fun?
With the exception of thermo( a map so sadly cannibalised), even maps with chokepoints can be good maps, especially for newcomers that want to learn; as long as you play them without restrictions.

I'm also tired of maps like canis 4vs4. I can't see them anymore. But yes the most players are playing such maps.
I try to host my own game then.

Open maps are generally hectic and require a much greater level of attention. The choke point maps are a little more laid back or "fun". Plus
there is a large portion of the community that has always enjoyed the turtley fire base construction side of things.

Personal taste should be respected. I was simply pointing out, why would someone bump onto maps with choke points more often.
Chances are that you will become bored if you play continuously closed or open maps. The good thing is that in Faf there are people with inclination for both types of play. This is in contrast with GPG before its collapse.
As for thermo, I don't know, but I feel that if it weren't for the traditional restrictions it would play much better.
Anyway, SupCom is all about combining all types of play, most of which can be found on FAF. Open or closed maps are hosted all the time in custom games and you can find them in ladder too.But you do have to search and may be wait a little to find them.

Sadly how on a higher level this problem is even more of a big deal.
Once you hit 2k it becomes incredibly harder to get a good game going. Cause there are not too many of the other 2k players and what they usually play is... canis, pyramid, two hills, canis, wonder, pyramid, wonder, two hills, canis, wonder, pyramid, wonder, etc. It is rare to see some other map played. And when you try to host smth different... "nah, its not our usualy map we play every day, choose other"
But what i really miss are 2v2 and 3v3 games. 2k players just wont play them. Probably because it falls under "not our usual map" category.
