Lets make simspeed benchmarks (revised!)

Postby Dr_Doolittle » 13 Feb 2013, 16:28

UPDATE 4[

Both windowed and full screen benches are now welcome, though I need to know which mode you used.

UPDATE 3

I made a chart where the correlations between our FA benchmarks and other benchmarks are shown. Unfortunately, out of about 40 benchmarks I could only use 6 because of lack of information/OCed benches/windowed mode. Windowed mode can't be used for some reason as sometimes it's (much) slower than full screen benches.

So please, follow updated instructions and do the bench (again)!

UPDATE 2

I made a nice chart where I compare processor price and FA benchmark results. I use the benchmark score for last time lap to calculate.

UPDATE:

Request from Ze_Pilot: try this bench without and with coremaximizer if you use something newer than XP, so he can prove his point that it's useless ;)

Original post:

I'd like you to do a benchmark. It's quick, simple, and takes about 2 minutes (depending on your computer speed).

Some dude on the [H]ardforum inspired me to do this benchmark. Link: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1709516
Because I could not get his replay, we cannot compare our results to his.

The purpose of this is to find out how each PC configuration (primarily processor, RAM and GPU) can handle this awesome game. The ultimate goal is to predict what simspeed a certain processor/pc configuration will run on a certain match. I will collect all data in nice charts and graphs in a Google Drive spreadsheet. Everyone is able to view it and you can hover over to see the scores and labels here (each graph is in a different sheet. sheets are displayed at the bottom): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... FekE#gid=0

I'd like to see a lot of stock speed benchmarks, as they can be compared to other benchmarks on the internet to find a correlation. With a high correlation we can achieve my ultimate goal, as stated above in bold ;) I now sort-of know how to overclock my RAM/processor so I can test the influence of that myself. If you know how to change it in your bios, please bench at 1333MHz RAM (to minimize RAM influence on correlation calculations).

The benchmark will be a 2:00 minutes long replay, where i spawn 1000 ASF before each benchmark of 30 seconds, up to 4000 ASF. This is just to stress out all kinds of processors. Note down the real time elapsed at 30 second intervals. I've posted reminders in chat too (do not use those, they're a bit off timing). The first benchmark is at 30 seconds, next at 1:00 minute, then 1:30 and the last is at 2:00.

The benchmark goes like this:
Step 1: Download the replay I attached to this post and just open it; no need to put it in the replay folder. When openend FAF will downgrade your version to the replay version. You can update to current just by opening FAF and hosting/joining a game. I've thought about a 4v4 Seton's Clutch match but this way it's faster for you.
Step 2: As soon as you can see the map, note the time on a random clock, or start a stopwatch on your phone for example. If you're running multiple screens you can use this online stopwatch at another screen: http://www.timeanddate.com/stopwatch/ Please do not minimize and do not zoom in or out. Benchmarking at 1920x1080 / full screen windowed is also nescesary, as watching the first 3 ASF fights will negatively influence your score.
Step 3: Note every 30 seconds of game time how much real time has elapsed. First benchmark will be at 0:30, second at 1:00 etc. E.g: at 2:00 minutes, 3:00 minutes of real time have elapsed.
Step 4: Post your results here, together with your CPU name, CPU clock speed (if overclocked), amount of RAM, RAM speed, operating system and whether you benched at windowed mode or full screen.

I will be very grateful for everyone who will cooperate. I have posted results for an Phenom X4 965BE and FX 6300.

I've replaced the old replay with a .fafreplay. Thanks.

Thanks, I will add your results to the spreadsheet asap.

What is your amount of RAM?

intel i5 750 @ 3.675 ghz
4 gig ddr3 1400

edit: turbo was enabled

i have tried some other settings and expect giving my cpu 50 watts more power to get some mhz more, increasing the ramclock to 1750 mhz gave me the biggest boost. here are some new benchmarks. (still same cpu clock) also i have noticed that there is no difference between 9-9-9-24 and 7-7-7-18, so timings are not relevant...

Update from july the 9th:

i pushed my cpu to the limits :D. 4,2 ghz from 2,66 ghz!! remember that cpu becomes 4 years old in september.

I've put your data into the spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... FekE#gid=0
5 Graphs are on the bottom, with the description on top of it. The i5 is obviously better at each interval, and overall too.
