It's cold edition

Q&A
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned a document would be made to be filled with topics from the public for the next dev call, well now it has been made.
Do try to be polite in filling it out with topics: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BeH ... JZh8/edit#
(as of writing this there seems to be a few issues with the permissions of the document, I am trying to get them ironed out)

To be honest I am not going to get into this here because there are 1488 layers of semantics to this and if I get one of them wrong chances are someone will try to bite my head off and I would rather the things I write here be based a bit more on facts. If you want an opinion feel free to PM me on discord or any of the 6 million people involved to get their take on it.

Someone used the daily channel.
This has never been used before in the time I have been there, apparently people use it to say they're doing stuff.

Rage Against the Machine
The AI tournament went ahead, turns out leveraging a single PC to simulate an entire tournament takes a lot of time.

Gucci Shit

So some Retard thought the current Python Client looked gay as shit so he decided to do something about it by making a an improvement that was at the same time so disgustingly inoffensive it will never hold a candle to Waifuland thus be eligible to be 'official'.

It looks something like this Image

Nothing happened.
Like people are doing stuff but nothing that hasn't already been mentioned or is nearing fruition any time soon except the PC election results.

ACKTCHUALLY

there was a pretty interesting discussion regarding rating - just a few months ago a new paper was released from MS about trueskill2, which could be seen as a direct upgrade to what we have been using so far.

you can read up on it here:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/uploads/prod/2018/03/trueskill2.pdf

interesting points include:
-taking a growth in player skill over time into account
-more accurately modelling rustyness (due to other changes)
-taking ingame performance into account - such as (acu) kills & ragequits
-overall accuracy of prediction is up to ~70% from ~50%

also is the possibility of making game modes (featured mods) and maps be taken into account when computing your rating (!)

now, before you all rush off to get super excited, implementing this, is very hard. (this is the bit no one reads ofc)
it requires a significant update to the client(s), server, matchmaker, ingame code, and the rating database.
whats more is we havent found an online implementation of trueskill, so we will have to find that first.
so dont get excited, its gonna take at least months i guess.

the mods/maps are a whole other issue, and are the hardest part, so that would take even more time and effort, and might not even work at all, since faf has tens of thousands of maps in the vault but the system is made for more like 20. i hope you can see the difference there.

or something like that anyway, now go crazy or whatever.

Actually this is a conversation taking place in every other avenue of communication, I'm pretty sure I saw smoke signals down the road going on about it.
As such I didn't deem this as something worth putting in.
