Hello Commanders!

We are currently working on a whole new campaign, the Nomads campaign! But we need help, we are desperately looking for a good storyteller. If you are a person that thrive in creating new characters and crafting an amazing story, we would love to have you in our team!

Currently we have written a background story and Mission 1. But if you don't like what we wrote, we are always open for suggestions!

If you wish to join our Nomads Team, please contact any of these people in the client, via PM.

Or you can of course reply to this post.

backgroundstory (Lore):
Spoiler: show
In 2083, several technologies with FTL implications are developed. One of these, a prototype worm-holing experiment, attempts to send an automated construction ship to another location. The experiment fails, engulfing both the ship and a nearby research station inside an unstable wormhole, transporting them to an unknown location. The technology is declared dangerous and expensive, interest is lost in favour of the more reliable quantum tunneling and is not pursued further. The ship and crew of the research station are declared dead and over time, they become forgotten.

In reality, the crew and ship survived the journey with minor damages. Long range scans revealed only one star system nearby. The stations mainframe was unable to recognize any of the star formations and thus it was impossible to determine the exit location of the wormhole. With no options left and stranded in unknown space, the crew of the station boarded the experimental ship and headed towards the planet.

After landing on the surface they quickly realized that the planet was not only lacking a breathable atmosphere but also resources of any kind.
Salvaging parts of the ship and the station, the scientists and engineers created a shelter and settled, although uncomfortably, on the first planet inside the star system.
Without quantum communication relays allowing instantaneous communication, they were unable to send a message back to the Earth Empire, a regular transmission needing centuries to get to Earth.

In 2214 one of their mining ships discovered an ancient artefact located on an asteroid. It appeared to be part of a facility of unknown origin, and possessed technology very advanced in the field of inter-dimensional communication and study. Nomad scientists researched this artifact extensively and eventually they were able to reverse engineer technology to create controlled interdimensional rifts allowing near instant transport over interstellar distances. Resources were scarce on their new home star system, and the colonists began to build ships to seek out more. The Nomads were born.

In 2308 the Nomads start spreading throughout the neighbouring systems, living mostly in artificial space stations and ships due to a lack of habitable planets, the Nomads gradually adapted to their life in space. Because of their time spent in fleets, a clan like culture developed where each fleet is its own faction. Limited communication between the fleets is maintained, but disagreements and competition over resources leads to occasional fights and piracy between various fleets.

This competition between different ships and a lack of centralized government, coupled with an unending search to acquire more fuel and resources to repair their ships results in the Nomads pace of development to stagnate; quantum tunneling technology is not pursued in favour of interdimensional rifts.

Gradually, advancements are made in the fields of nanofabrication and efficient spacecraft construction; genetic engineering and symbiont alternatives are not researched and developed. Interdimensional drives are improved and their efficiency increases dramatically. These technological advancements lead to more unification between the Nomad fleets and ship blueprints are shared collectively, culminating in a standardised fleet being established.

The Nomads begin to expand rapidly, no longer hampered by inter-fleet competition. Habitable worlds are discovered however, due to their now space oriented culture not many wish to colonize them. The ones that do colonise planets, establish spaceports for the Nomad fleets and form their own "Planet bound" societies, separate to the Nomads but friendly due to frequent trading of supplies.

Each individual inhabited colony is independent and there is little to no need for expansion. Frequent visits of Nomad ships are able to cater for the Planet bounds needs, in return for steady supplies of fuel and repairs. Unification of the colonies is forgone and the Nomads maintain their relationship with the Planet bound societies.

(idea here is that since the nomads are all about space travel and shit this is how they deal with habitable planets - since everyone is used to the space life they just dont really care, so theres plenty of people living on the planets but theyre like the ex-nomads now and have no need to travel/expand since theres loads of nomad fleets everywhere. this explains why theyre still nomads and not just earth empire mk2)

this first part explains how the nomads came to be and a little about their culture and way of dealing with things.

next, we will go how the nomads eventually met up with the other factions and made their way home (almost)

The relative stability of the Nomads and the colony states they left behind, as well as technological advancements in the areas of space travel and automation leads the Nomads to pursue a new goal: Find Earth.

A number of expeditionary fleets is assembled and set to explore further across the galaxy. Their main purpose is to find signs of human activity, but any areas of interest are reported to the Nomad community, leading to a rapid expansion and colonization.

In 3831 an expeditionary force notices strange radio signals in an unexplored system. They are sent to investigate, hoping to find the rest of the human civilization. Arriving in 3834 they land on the planet and attempt to make contact. The UEF commander stationed on the planet attempts to capture the crew of the ship, in order to find out more about the currently unknown Nomads. The Nomads escape, killing the commander in the process before reinforcements can arrive. (Mission 1)

The UEF fails to recognize the Nomads, believing the raid was a Cybran incursion and does not investigate much further. (debatable)

While escaping the Nomads captured some UEF technology and databanks, from them they gain limited knowledge of the infinite war and the other factions, as well as locations of colonies and planets of interest.

The Nomad fleets declare the UEF and by extension Aeon and Cybran as an existential threat and extensive research is carried out by them as well as the planet states in order to devise methods of combating them.

An alternative to the UEF ACU is developed, instead of being teleported into combat directly, it uses existing Nomad command ships to be transported to a target planet and dropped there to better engage on the ground. Multiple Nomad technologies are adapted from space faring to ground combat, as there is a lack of space-borne targets for the UEF.

Over the course of the next few years, the Nomads send many scout ships in the area but try to avoid any combat or interaction with the factions, while gathering as much intel as possible. In some systems they also construct observation posts on moons or uninhabited planets.

Mission 1:
Spoiler: show
A Nomad ship encountered what is believed to be an Earth Empire Outpost. Gather intel about the current state of the Earth Empire and try to establish diplomatic relations.
what actually happens: UEF commander wants to confiscate the Nomad ship and quarantine/detain the crew. Defend yourself.
Final goal: Gather intel about the current state of the galaxy.
Objective 1:
- You, as the Commander of the Nomads 12th expeditionary fleet have been placed in-charge of the command ship and have landed it on the planet. Using our engineers, you must construct an outpost and maintain a sustainable income of resources. Establish a base and scout as quickly as possible.
- You will contact the Earth Empire to discuss diplomatic relationships. The Nomads are low on resources, so you will only have access to Tech 1 units and buildings.
Objective 2:
- The Earth Empire Commander is sending a sizeable force to you. Get your engineers back to the ship and counter the Earth Empire's attacks!
- Send 2/3 transports to attack the Nomads
- Possibly send 2 UEF transports to the Command Centre
- You must defend the landed Command ship at all costs.
- You will start with Tech 1 (Heavy Air Play)
Objective 3:
- It's time to figure out what the hell is happening. Capture the Earth Empire Command Center and gather information about the current state of the galaxy. Our Tech's will try
to obtain Earth Empire tech.
- You will gain access to more Tech 1 Land by capturing a UEF Land Factory (Restrict Engineers)
- (Secondary): Commander, if you have spare resources, assault the Earth Empire power plant. This will de-activate the shields around their main base.
- (Secondary): We need a counter measure sir. Construct a Tech 2 Air Factory to gain access to our air strikes. We will send some units to attack a small position, however they will return to the ship if they survive.
Objective 4:
Our Techs have uncovered the state of the galaxy. The Commander we're fighting is with a faction called the 'UEF'. This changes nothing.
- (Secondary): Sir, it's time to go on the offensive. The UEF Commander strained his resources with those attacks and is now rebuilding his army. Take advantage of this break and attack his outposts!
- Your artillery ability will become available over time sir, our planes need time to refuel and re-arm.
- Attack and kill the UEF Commander with all you have sir, we need to leave as soon as possible!

Possible character concept :)

Thanks for your time and have a nice day ;)

the first mission will happen shortly before the end of the infinite war (~10 years before) and the later missions will reach in the FA campaign (sera show up from mission 3 or 4 on, but thats completely up to discussion)

sure but that will most likely be discarded

Could you please use this campaign as an excuse to explain what the hell really happened when the Black Sun was fired? So it can be better linked to FA. Also, Black Sun has to be fired before mission 6 if we want the Seraphim to show up in Nomads' campaign, right?

Reason why UEF commander attacked nomads is unclear.
Why would he mistakenly think they are cybran or why he attacked nomads?
maybe his sensors were hacked by Cybran or just damaged so he panicked and just send his forces on you...
maybe he didn't even know nomads were there and thought that was some kind of ambush?
Maybe UEF really wanted something from Nomads and went agressive on them...
i just wish to see tiny bit more plausible details.
The UEF commander stationed on the planet attempts to capture the crew of the ship, in order to find out more about the currently unknown Nomads. The Nomads escape, killing the commander in the process before reinforcements can arrive. (Mission 1)

but
Objective 2:
- The Earth Empire Commander is sending a sizeable force to you. Get your engineers back to the ship and counter the Earth Empire's attacks!
- Send 2/3 transports to attack the Nomads
- Possibly send 2 UEF transports to the Command Centre

Why would this UEF ACU die in that battle? Should you make him attack with his ACU in that mission so that will leave no choice other than killing that ACU? (inb4 some one just walls off so ACU can't pass >_<)
story feels like he went in with his shield up and tryed to capture something from nomads, and in the process and got his ass kicked...
would also be cool to name his ACU by some famous FAF suicider :D

the mission is planned to be the first contact between nomads and vanilla factions. At that time, the nomads didnt have an acu (there was no need to develop one) and land their ship to make contact with the old earth empire.

They land close to the base they found by scanning the planet and as it turns out, its a top secret research base from UEF (maaayyyybeeee black sun research). The UEF commander decides to not take any risks and tries to quarantine you (see aeon disaster).

(this is the story we invented for this, Tokyto just forgot to mention it)

Go to dotswarlock's books. They're a better answer to the obvious gap that GPG left than anything else can possibly be.

As for the nomads: the SupCom campaign had a an empty zone between aeon and UEF territory, called the quarantine zone. You can have the first missions, or even the majority of the missions along the borders of that zone without intruding too much in the infinite war. The nomads were unknown weren't they? You need a reason for that.

Hi,

I have been thinking about writing a SupCom based story for a while, so you can imagine the smile on my face right now!

My two major questions are: When is the deadline? How long can it be (I could write a shortstory of like 5000-10000 words) ?

I happen to love the Nomads aswell and played them a lot before they didn't work for so long.

I'll get cracking right away!

to avoid any confusion and/or overlap,
heres the current google doc, where you can look at it:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KXt ... sp=sharing
theres a background story as well as a couple of alternative versions for the campaign which build off the background story.
