it is an interesting idea, however i think 5maps are a bit too few, maybe 7 or so. However they have to be carefully picked to make sure you have some diversity.

From a noob's point of view, the large 1v1 ladder maps are very difficult to play. When we start out on ladder, could we play the small maps first until we rank up, then play the medium and large ones at higher ranks? This game has a very steep learning curve as it is and the large maps make this challenge even harder.

I would argue that the 5*5s punish misstakes harder than any other size

Strategic and tactical mistakes can be improved on witin a hand full of games but the APM required on a large map is much higher.

Yeah, when I watch low rated players (<1k) play larger maps it's obvious they don't know where to start. It's difficult to improve if you can't get a grasp on the map at all because of its scale.

Hello everyone!

After discussing with Blodir, I decided to make a test. The next ladder rotation, which is beginning on monday the 3rd of April, the map pool will only consist of 5 maps. This rotation will last for 2 weeks. After this period, it will be decided if we want to keep this system, go back to the old one or slightly adjsuting this new system.

Why did we decide to try and do this change? Small map pools allow players to practice each map and try to truly master it, making for more interesting games. Also, learning a few maps at a time is more noob-friendly, becouse they can copy build orders from better players and build on that.

The map pool will look like this:

The Land Wilderness V3
- a small map for fast games
Roanoke Abyss - a 20km naval map
Loki - a classic land 10km expansion-heavy map
Eye of the Storm - a 10km map with lot of possible strategies. Allowing the use of all Land/Naval/Air strategies
Syrtis Major - Another classic 10km map, with lot of reclaim potential and heavy land plays

It will be important to have strong feedback in the upcoming days, so if you would try and play ladder in the upcoming rotation and preferably talk to me in PM about your feelings, it would be very appreciated.

Personally i am against this idea. I am one of the few high-ish ladder rated player who plays currently. But I think 5 maps is way too little. I get bored when i play the same map a couple of time, i like variety. Also, this could put many people off, as already alot of people dont play ladder due to not liking certain maps, as everyone has maps they do and dont like. And with only 5 maps, if 3 of them are unliked, more people wont play as they only have a 2/5 chance on playing a decent map in their opinion.

As i said, this is just my thoughts on it, if this is what the majority want so be it.
