Again, not true. There are plenty of people with money in the community. LegendOfStars is obviously not a poor man as he's contributing a substantial amount to the year-end tournament.

visionik was ready to buy the game but he didn't really know who to buy it from, he had a lawyer to sort through the mess and he didn't manage to get too many good results. So I'm not sure how throwing money at the problem will achieve anything.

Also I haven't seen anyone who would be willing to do all this, as it's not a simple thing to do. Only opinions like "we should do that", yeah but who is "we"? At the end you will need at least 1 person who will step up and start doing things, I guess someone who already knows a bit about the problem and has a good plan.

What I heard about the source code was that those who own it, don't have it. And that there is one person who has to copy, but he's not suppose to have it.

So you will end up making deal with 2-3 companies to get full rights to supcom + include this guy there somewhere to get the source code but without the company causing him problems that he had the copy.

Solve that one real quick.

Spoiler: show
Now if we imagine that all that somehow happens then what?
I see things like we should totally add better multithread support, like it would be something easy to do. Who's gonna do it? Im not sure we have people with time and skill to do that. Or you want to raise even more money to pay someone to do that?

Maybe not now, but some years in the future it could be possible.

Do we need to buy the entire source code or can we Cherry pick certain functions and license its use? This may be an alternative as opposed to buying it.

I know you said procuring the code would be a challenge but I am not sure why it's always stated to buy it all.

You don't need full rights to supcom. You make the game, get sued, and settle.

Or you just change the name since it's all new code. Pay google a bunch of money to make the game for the free advertising.

don't expect some one dude with a free game engine to make you a fa clone, thread. it's not going to happen

Isn't this exactly what I said? I said, FAF can probably still improved a lot before we need to recreate the entire game from scratch.

we're really scratching the bottom of the barrel in terms of possible improvements we CAN make IMHO.

I mean don't get me wrong every new UI upgrade I LOVE but it seems clear to me we're gonna hit a point we're there's nothing left we can do other then mix up the balance , gameplay and units and at that point the single thread and pathfinding is really gonna itch.

this game is 9 years old now. at what point do we admit it REALLY needs to see the light of day in a bigger way then this?
