Starcraft had a good version of this in the custom games section that I loved it also had ( and we should too if implemented):

1x assassin (victory is killing everyone)
1x jailor ( can steal someone at night and interrogate/kill them if they suspect its a bad guy)
1x sheriff (protects the town)
1x Serial killer ( same as assassin but abilities are different)
x amount of randoms with different affiliations.

Didn't want to have too many roles because people might get confused.

There's a ton of variations. I like werewolf, and i'm pretty fond of any where more of the town gets roles and stuff to do, rather than just exist to be lynched/murdered.

Edit: Maybe add a few town roles?

Town
1x Shaman - Can save someone during night phase
1x Ladder Warrior(1-Shot) - Can engage in combat and kill someone during the night phase
8x Vanilla Town

Victory Condition: Kill all mafia

Mafia
1x Chat Moderator(1-shot) - During night phase they can poison one town for just the next day, if said person posts during the next day, they die.
2x Vanilla Mafia

Victory Condition: Parity with town

Days will be 36 hours
Nights will be 12 hours
Night will end as soon as all actions are given regardless of time.
Roles will be completely random.

Rules:
-No posting your actual role pms in anyway, copy pasting, screenshots, etc.
-Do not post after the end of day
