Well firstly I'm baffled as to why 20x20 maps are somehow bad for casters. It's not like I've never casted myself and I've never found any issue. Games there are just as interesting. Map picking rules can directly influence the outcome of the tourney while for casters they eh... don't matter at all? At least for this format. Some super fast blitz tourney single elimination sure thing, but for top lvl 1v1 turtle game on isis or senton has just as much insight as a game on syrtis or whatever. Players are locked into playing but casting is completely optional, regardless how many people watch it.

I have no idea what this means, but I don't see any problems with faction picking and shuffling in the lobby except that it usually ends up in a mirror faction matchup. Which in itself is already a hugely imposed issue and I'd rather not see any brutal faction rules to restrict players.

SPEAKING OF RESTRICTIONS, I almost forgot.

I mean, seriouly? Not only that this just got me a pool that was hugely favouring zock but in a finals of the biggest tournament of this year you decide to prioritize caster rights over player rights, as BH would say that's diseased.
Then the "Alternatively, if both players agree, a map doesn't have to be in the list." is in place for a show-off apparently. And while something like crazyrush should be agreed on by both players, being blocked from picking goddamn sentons which is a classic and totally normal 20x20 is just an abuse, there is no way around it.

So i should prioritize two players over casters with hundreds of people watching? That seems diseased to me...

I can't please everyone, sorry :/

Exactly. The whole idea is to remove that faction shuffling you pick aeon>I pick sera>you pick cybran>I pick UEF>etc.

No faction limitations are included in any of the proposed systems. Just eliminating the shuffling roulette is. Perhaps you misread something?
If you are thinking of picking a faction, there is no limit to how many times you can pick a faction. You can be all UEF throughout the tourney in such a system if you wish.

Another way to do this is to specify that if maps are to be picked, the host picks the map and he also has to pick his faction and stick with it.

Similarly a "home" player can be specified, for example, the person coming from winner's bracket, that gets the last faction pick.

Of course in a BO1 swiss tourney, this is impossible so in such cases a blind faction pick is the only way.

Aside from blind, all of these can carry certain amount of competitive edge, depending on the map and players so enforcing anything else than blind could change the outcome of some close matchups.

Would be really nice if we got a hide factions option in the lobby so you can not see what your opponent picks.

Before someone has time to code this you can achieve the same thing if the tournament director gets a list from the players for what factions they will play on what map/round before the game is hosted, so they can't go switching around freely but are committed to their choice.

There was a very nice working concept of faction mix-up implemented in (if i remember correctly) bh spotlight when he played BO11 against me. We could only pick one faction 4 times 2nd faction 3 times 4th and 5th faction 2 times. That also has some problems ofc cause good players will likely pick same factions even not knowing each others' pick but it's probably the best there could be. And it's much better than just asking for factions beforehand.
